Top end rebuilt with new timing gaskets etc.

Spark plugs out, fuel pump relay removed and oil pressure gauge attached where pressure sender usually is.

Question is will a starter motor on cranking over create oil pressure so I'm satisfied its circulating before firing her up.

Ps - I'm cautious I've installed a new stealth cam

I had a similar worry when recommissioning recently, primed the oil pump through the sender port then put a mechanical gauge in instead. Got 30psi from the starter straight off with plugs out

Thanks Alan. I take it you mean the oil pressure warning switch on the timing cover? I put the mechanical gauge on the sump, perhaps this is the wrong place.....?

Serp or pre serp?

If its serp, I wouldn't go to all the bother and just start it. Pre serp, take off the dizzy and use a 12mm socket on a drill (unless you have the tool) and you can spin the pump at "normal engine speed" to test it out.

I have a Spa digital gauge and it always shows 6-10psi in the first second of cranking before it fires, (serp).

When rebuilding I wizz the engine over, plugs out for about 10 seconds, plugs in and oil pressure pretty much immediate.

Before fitting the Oil Filter, fill it with engine oil.

Its a serp

I did try and put oil in the filter but it didn't absorb much it just seemed to go down the centre and fill back up, certainly not the usual filters worth.

Having a mechanical gauge on the bottom of timing cover (usual pressure sender place) is this the best place.

When the car overheated ( the original start to my problems) the PRV for stuck and took some persuasion to come out. I cleaned it and lightly 800 wetndry it.

Appreciate any more suggestions before I crank over for 10 secs tomorrow. Being a new cam I'm being very cautious.

To fill the filter you need to be patient. Pour oil into the centre area to the brim. The oil level will then slowly drop as the oil passes through the filter element. When it stops fill it again, oil level will drop again but not so far. Repeat the process until you can't get any more oil in.

Cheers JW. Did that and squirted oil down the prv section too and although cranking did not give a pressure i put the plugs in and started it up with pressure hitting 55 psi in 1 or 2 seconds. Leap of faith.

All fluids sound and system bled but now I've got shunting. But will search forum first

Pleased you are up and running. Nice oil pressure. No experience of shunting I'm afraid, but plenty of expertise available on PH.

I have the stealth and cant seem to dial out the shunting at around 1000-1500 rpm. Thankfully its not alot and its not always!

Any of you running 450 with a stealth.

I posted this shunting in another post but basically I get complete power loss (engine still turns) at 1800 rpm and will only engage at 1200 rpm.

I get full power though for 200 metres before this 'limp' mode kicks in. Turn engine off and same cycle again. Resetting ecu makes no difference.

Ideas?
