hello all,
Dad's looking into buying a 2nd hand Chimaera (despite pronouncing it chim-errrr-ah!) and just wondering if you had any advice on where the best place is to buy and if there's anything to watch out for.
Also wondering if you'd know roughly how much it would cost for me to be a named driver

Tell him to spend 14k on the Chim and the rest on insurance?
On a more serious note for 16k he'll have pick of the bunch, easily getting a low mileage 98/99 4/4.5. The Chim (Or Griff if he leaves enough aside for the medallion) is a great car and a perfect introduction into TVR. Engines/Chassis are pretty much bombproof if looked after correctly. They're plenty past and also 'relativively' easy to drive.
Insurance for me was £1000 (I'm 29, 2yrs NCB and 3 pts) compared with £2800 for a Mazda RX7 (my 2nd choice) so I think you'll be surprised how cheap it may be to add you as 2nd driver.

I was in this situation just over a year ago. I decided that ;
(a) I didn't want to buy from a TVR main dealer cos if the price.
(b) I didn't want to buy from a none TVR dealer as I had heard a few horror stories.
(c) Didn't want to buy private as I didn't know enough about TVR's to be able to sort out the good from the bad.

So I decided to get an expert involved (Rob Ingleby).
There's a million and one threads about Rob, (and James Agger) but basically, as he haggles on your behalf, it likely that it won’t actually cost you anything for his find/inspect service.
