116,000 mile camshaft
Discussion
'Just for anyone who is interested in how an original camshaft looks on 116,000 mile 400. So after 6 1/2 years of ownership, I've finally checked mine - and as expected, it's seen better days.
I'm actually pleased that I have found it in this state, as although the car drove perfectly, it always felt like it had more to give. Inside the engine is pleasingly clean too, so a nice new lumpy cam and some general TLC will make all the difference

I have plenty of time (Le Mans next June is completion) , there's no rush to get it done, the engine is coming out and I'm going to give it a good seeing to
I'm in the same boat kind of, Peak. Giving mine a rebuild as part of the resto, so changing the cam for something that'll give it more punch lower down.
What are you looking for your cam to do? Low to mid, or mid to top end power? Are you sourcing your engine bits from Real Steel?
What make cam are you going for? I have been doing some due diligence regarding cam selection, so if you want any info I have gleaned so far, drop me a line.

My standard range Rover 4.6 engine made 275 bhp with the real steel typhoon cam and a 72mm plenum, otherwise standard.
Oooh Errr missus...........I'm planning an 885 cam, 72mm plenum, better heads from Dom and matched ported inlet so should see some good numbers on my 450 when Dan has done the work for me caduceus said:

I'm not sure yet, probably going for low-mid. However I'm going to pull the engine out and rebuild it, I'm not sure yet how far to go - in a few years I want to go down the FI route, so I probably need to be mindful of my cam selection now. Also if I get some head work done that will influence the choice....What are you looking for your cam to do? Low to mid, or mid to top end power? Are you sourcing your engine bits from Real Steel?

I'm in no rush to get the car back on the road and there's loads of other little jobs I want to do on it, so I'm going to take my time and choose wisely (I hope!)
Thanks.
James.
