My poor baby's suffering from a very bumpy ride. 
Bumps now seem much harder and bigger than before, handling is getting worse, it has a tendancy to veer to the right, and when I turn the wheel past half a turn, I can feel it rubbing on the wheel arch.
Am I right in thinking the shock absorbers are dead? What options are there for replacing them - I hear whispers of words like Nitrons... What are these?

For a few miles now, the front of my car has not felt right. I can’t really say if it’s a knock, a clonk, a judder or a patter type feeling when going over bumps on the rough country lanes.

Sounds like a suspension problem, but not necessarily the dampers. Possible problem with broken spring or bush. I'm sure someone will come along in a min to help you who actually knows what they are talking about!
Hi Jimothy. If the wheel is rubbing the wheelarch I would say there is definately something wrong, but it could be one of a number of things. Mine has had a bent wishbone, others have had bushes go, for example.
May be expensive to fix by trial and error, I would say see an expert who sees these cars every day, he will probably put his finger on your particular problem in no time.
Whatever, I would definately ask for a full geometry setup (not just tracking) once the problem is fixed.
Austec (near Gatwick) would fit the bill, there may be others closer of course!
