Rv8 and new PowerSparks disi
Discussion
Hi folks, I know this isn't a tvr, but has a rv8 and so I couldn't think of a better place than to ask....
I've just replaced my distributor of my 1990 RR as the vacuum advance had failed and it was as well to replace the whole lot from PowerSparks. All o needed to do was to convert the 2 pin plug to their 3, which I did using a soldered soldering the wires and then Timed it to 12° as I'm on LPG. All good to start with until the engine got up to teMP, at which point it would cut out and not restart untill it had cooled down. I checked and there was no spark from the coil on cranking over. It did spark once when the ignition was initially switched on, but not a bean out of it until it had cooled down, at which point it would fire up until up to teMP at which point cutting out and no spark again.
Has anyone any suggestions as in the Mrs bad books as we had a kayaking weekend arranged and it's ny fault I replaced the disi!!!! :-/ lol

Definitely looks like the amp as the coils doing it stuff, just the fact the disi and amp are brand new was making wonder was it something else.
I wonder if there's a cable about to make the amp a remote one similar to my chim?
You can pickup the remote kits for about £65. I wonder if there's a cable about to make the amp a remote one similar to my chim?
Depends what you are trying to achieve with remote mounting as the stock system should work. You can buy the kit, or simply unbolt the stock amp off the side of the dizzy, and mount it somewhere off the engine where its cooler. You will have to extend the trigger wires from the dizzy to the new position using very small spades / blade connectors, and importantly, screened audio cable as the signal is so small. If you use twin stereo cable, you can use one channel for each side of the trigger, but the screen wire must be grounded.

If I was in your shoes, Id put the OEM Lucas amp on the side of the Powersparks dizzy and go back to the original wiring. Aftermarket amps are not proving to be reliable.
