So that we can admire our shoes as we drive?? So that anyone sitting in the footwell can read a map in the dark??

Who knows, or dares to dream...

I found the light usefull when fiddling with the electrics in the dark and raining and stuck in the middle of nowhere - had to use the hood bulb though, it had blown...
Either that or it's a reading light for small dogs.
Keep guessing..
The clue is I was working on my gearbox.

Aha, so I was close with the Sherpa van bits then! I know, you've found a bit of a Nissan Micra lurking in the box??

Either that, or you've won the Lottery and have decided to donate a large sum of money to the Send SGirl Somewhere Nice On Holiday Fund??

So when you are grovelling to check a fuse/relay you can see what you are doing. Well almost. Except when the fuse for the light has gone.

It's not the older type gearbox, but the newer one (can't remember what they're called - Borg & Warner and T5 ring a bell...)

Ok then, to make it interesting (and believe me it's not )

The prize will be a fourpack of your favorite beer, presented at the next meet (no vegetarian option, i'm afraid).

And yes, the contents of the box were scattered accross my coffee table, but no the missus didn't object cause she's 300 miles away and an ex.

a) it's a six speed box, not a five speed...?
b) you've wrecked ALL the syncromesh (or there wasn't any there anyway)
c) you didn't need to strip it as it has already been done just before you bought the car
d) you've put it back together with a home made short-shift lever
e) there was something in it that wouldn't normally be found there (e.g. money, bow-tie...)

a) and is now as smooth as the proverbial infants arse
b) is knackered and don't work
c) you made it into an auto 'box (?!?!)
d) you've made a special shift lever (either short throw or touring car / rally car mega long stick by the steering wheel styleleeee)
e) you've put it back together and gone "ooh, shit, what's this bit that's still left on the kitchen table?"
f) Podie is bored at work today and can't be arsed as he's off on holiday soon.
