Service report - worth getting adv.note work done?

If a car has a service and the TVR garage mentions on the service report that

a) there is excessive play on a ball joint
b) there is corrosion on the wishbone
c) shock absorbers are leaking

Should the owner get these points fixed

or

do TVR garages make a list of advisory notes such as these inorder to cover themselve in the event of an MOT failiure.

Also, are these faults likely to be costsly to repair?

I would have thought that they were listed to inform the owner that not everything in the garden is rosy.

I would personally get em fixed, that way I don't have to worry about them again. Also if I “Do” have to worry about them again hopefully it won't be your problem, IYKWIM.

A and C I'd have a look into myself and potentially replace.

B.. who's aren't a bit of hammerite required

Balljoint.. under £30 and an hours labour.
Damper... dpends on the damper you go for.. circa £80 & an hours labour, but best to do them in pairs.
Wishbone... hammerite £10 an hour of your labour.

Find out further details about a and b but refurbish or replace the dampers immediately.

My year old Griff needed 2.5k spent on bushes, slave cylinder etc etc, not had them done in 4 years and no other service people recommended i have them done. No naming and shaming from me.

Don't forget that a report/invoice is also a marketing tool.

Steve, just changed a wishbone myself. Cost of the wishbone was £90 with the bushes in. It was quite easy, but you have to remeber to re-set the camber, which is easy to follow from the bible.

the point of a service is to check for potential problems so you should have trouble free motoring until your next service
whereas an mot checks things on the day
mot law is extremely lax and you shouldnt believe that your car is safe even if it passed an mot this morning
play in balljoint replace it now
worn balljoints will pop apart making your wheel point somewhere you dont want to go
corroded wishbones break doing the same as above replace it
leaking shocks. shock absorbers hold your tyre on the ground so if theyre knackered it will affect braking and handling
all the above will potentially cause you to crash i would have all the work done
you have paid the dealer for a proffesional opinion of your cars health take there advice

Would either of you really put leaking dampers into that category? a) b) and c) are potentially accident causing and c) sounds like it needs immediate attention. Servicing at the factory I have noticed that they have a very low tolerance for wear. Wear also means vibration in the car. I am more inclined to agree with chimtvr. The only real question is do you want AVOs, Nitrons....

Oh C'mon, I reckon 90% of the Chims in the country have rust on the outriggers.. I know my lower ones have a the moment. I don't consider it to be potenitally acident causing... just a job for the spring to sort out with a wire brush and some paint.

A and C yes, get them looked at.. B. well just have a look yourself, its not like they are obscured by anything other than the bonnet.

Edited to add: I think the point David Beer was making was that despite problems being reported to him by one garage, no-one else ever found them.. i.e. they weren't there in the first place, or they magically fixed themselves . I've been through this with a Ford Maindealer and an alledgedly leaking PAS pump reported leaking at the 20,000 mile service and advised urgent replacement. At 70,000 miles (and a further 4 services at a different dealership) I sold the car with the same pump in it that had never leaked at all (and not commented upon at any other service either)

no offence M@H but it says rust on wishbone not rust on outrigger its a huge difference the wishbone takes all the force of harsh braking and cornering and tvrs have a bad reputation for collapsing wishbones
but more to the point if you dont trust the garage you use for servicing why are you going there????
