OK, so I am looking at all the options for my roof. It annoys me that the hard top fills the boot.

I am aware of the Surrey roof and Steve Heaths hard top.

Does anybody know of any other roof options? I am thinking of something collapsible.

Has a MX-5 roof been tried?

Thanks,

Rich

split roof is another option. A cut and foam in the cut line, with a couple of clips to pull together looks good!

I really want to do a zip up rear window one like in the old porsche targas, would make the fold down section a lot flatter and the would look after the window better.

Think someone has converted an mx5 one onto an s or wedge, think it was an s...

Me too, I'm aware of the smaller window option that removes the issue of folding the window around the corners. The zip option also permits a glass section to be used

Joe used the MX-5 one as a base for the roof on his V8S. There is a thread over in the S forum with a link to the main thread.

There is also a write up in Sprint on it.

Whether it would work on a Chimp is another matter.

Surrey Roof is, imho, the best non-performance mod you can do. People moan about the quality but it is no worse than TVR's build quality.

Thanks peeps.

I have bought a MX-5 roof off the bay for £20, including heated rear screen.

Something to tinker with.

I like the idea it will collapse behind me and not occupy the boot. Whether I can get it to work is another question...

If the OEM hard top is properly stored there's still plenty of room in the boot?

(there must be, or 'er indoors would never have co piloted to Rome or Mallorca etc hehe

I guess you could make the frame fit and then get someone to cut the fabric to fit around the side windows, then they'll be a pattern for others to copy. It only takes one person, be the first, be the hero thumbup

I've roof down toured the continent a number of times with the original solid targa top with no shortage of luggage space.

The problem comes when you have a full boot and you want to take the roof off, or worse still you have the roof in the boot and you want to get at it in a hurry, say in a cloud burst.

The solution is the Surrey top, TBH since buying mine I haven't looked back.

In fact I haven't used my original targa top in two years, which is the same two years I've owned the Surrey top wink
