Does anyone here recognise this car and know anything about it? Don't want to go into to much detail yet but be interested to here what comes up.

I agree with bobfather, that's perished fuel hoses.

To anyone who is unaware of this issue, look in the engine bay at the back, nearest to the driver, and you will see two rubber hoses, exactly above the number 8 exhaust manifold.
They can perish and crack over time, and if you don't replace them before they burst, this is the result - burning fuel right above your legs, and a wrecked car.

When I first bought my car, from a dealer who is no longer selling TVRs, it had perished fuel pipes. Luckily, about a week later I went to see a helpful TVR owner, let's call him Alex, who offered to help me with replacing the stereo head unit, despite recovering from appendicitis at the time. Alex gave the car a quick check over before I left. As he pushed the number 8 plug lead back onto the plug he noticed the state of the hoses and loaned me a fire extinguisher for the journey home. I took the car straight to my newly recommended service guy, who went a strange shade of grey and replaced them.

If yours look anything like this, it's time for the brown trousers...
