Thought I would share this with the group firstly thanks to mk1fan for the original information, I bought a good set of calipers and carriers from fleebay when we (Mat Smith) fitted the calipers Mat found that a 283mm disc could be used the only thing needed was a 1.5mm washer to centralise the callipers on the disc as the height was 55 instead of 58, the disc was from mtec part no mtec203, I fitted mintex m1144 pads all round, the brakes now have much more feel on the road and after a test on the track yesterday they performed brilliantly with no fade.
The only small gripe is at very low speed every now and then they sound like a stranded whale calling for help, aparantly normal for mintex pads.

Mercedes had squealing rear brakes some 15 years ago so Mintex developed Ceratec to counter this.

Off topic I know but I had squealing brakes on my S type jaguar runaround.

I tried Brembo, Mintex, Pagid and Apec pads over a six month period. The discs were new Mintex ones and I even changed those for O/E Brembos. Copaslip and Cerotec were tried too and even a BRAND new set of calipers.

After much frustration and expense I bought a set of genuine Jaguar pads at £83! The result? Problem solved, silent as a mouse!

There must be a lesson to be learned there...

Regards Chris.

I use Ceratec on my Brembo 4 pot calipers with 324 mm discs and it's very effective. thumbup

Forgot to mention that it all fits nicely inside the standard 15 inch wheels

Was this an upgrade to the 240mm fronts or the 260mm later ones?

I have a 2000 Chim which has the 260mm fronts, and I'm wondering whether this upgrade is as big a deal as it presumably is from the 240mm discs?

Or would I be better off just getting new vented/drilled 260mm discs and Hawk pads (or similar)?

(Not looking to change the standard 15" wheels at this stage...)

This was an upgrade from 260 disc's which to be fair were perfectly adequate for the road, I did the upgrade as I have been doing more track days and a few sprints, I think the pad choice is important a large part of my brake issues were caused by the red stuff pads

This is my 240 to 300mm upgrade I did. No expensive names like Brembo, all parts available off the shelf, for a Focus ST170 and Mondeo Mk3, from Euro Car Parts. I have 15" front wheels and used a 5mm spacer. Easy DIY type upgrade.

But I doubt you would notice the difference from 260mm especially as the calipers are just 2 piston and not 4 or 6 like Brembos.

Re squealing brakes. Mintex Ceratec is something I am going to try tomorrow. However, EBC do a pad that sticks on the back of the brakepad which has worked to silence a friends squealy front brakes.

Good to hear the conversion went well.

I see you are based in London if you fancy a spin up the M11 you can try them for yourself, I am 20 minutes from Stansted

I'll (try and remember to) bring the tube with me and we can get our hands dirty after lunch.

Jack Valiant on here had the same Mintex pads and the EBC pads stopped the squealing. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LARGE-EBC-ANTI-SQUEAL-SE...

No idea if that is a good or bad price - from the consumers point of view.
