Haven't been about much on the forum for a while but following Phazed's earlier "Ouch! Snapped driveshaft..." post, what's the consensus on suppliers of strengthened/unbreakable units? I'm planning for more grip/use of available power and need to work through the drivetrain. I've covered gearbox & diff but need to determine best supply/value for uprated driveshafts (and keen to start/join a group buy if there's interest). So Dave Mac, Berrisford..... where's best?
Also wondering what standard CV joints will cope with, whether to risk fitting new stronger driveshafts to existing cv joints etc, etc. Any advice on uprated cv joints would also be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Following advice from a Cerb owner, I fitted Prolinx uprated CV joints, the heavy duty version (£69.95+vat).
See page 2 in the link for the options including race joints - their ultimate spec - at £209.95 + vat each. I spoke to them first to tell them what power I had and followed their recommendation. I also bought the very expensive Belray grease (£46.95+vat) and no problems so far.

This is the spec of Brummie's Cerb from his profile. He has had driveshafts made by Dave Mac and they are warranted for life. Fairly expensive though I believe.

"Now a Cerbera that 6.9 LS with Dart 225cc aftermarket heads, Kinsler Independent Throttle bodies (off a Mosler GT car) , high lift cam ,532bhp at the wheels, TKO 600 close ratio box, 3.08 diff, rebuilt chassis new poly bushes, First TVR proven to exceed 200mph? 10.6/133.98 qtr mile"

All very well, but my drive shafts didn't break, it was the stub axle in the hub!

Admittedly I was launching on the dragstrip at maximum power which was about 454 lbs of torque and duhmping the clutch With sticky tyres!

Jojackson's shaft sheared off where the circlip groove is. The Dave Mac shafts are shouldered instead to give them more strength.

I wonder if Brummie has uprated his stub axles too?

...which explains why they held, the next weakest part broke.
So, fit higher spec stub axles and wonder what gives next? Clutch? Or gearbox? laugh

The clutch is rated to 800 bhp and is a twin plate.

The next weakest link is the gearbox probably followed by the diff or the UJs on the propshaft.

And the T5 box weak link is 3rd gear shredding but this is through constant abuse/dragging apparently

Never seen the stub axle break before. I guess it had an inherent fault.

As far as aftermarket 'unbreakable' shafts are concerned I can vouch for Dave Macs as both I and Brummmie have tested them numerous times. Ive bone hundreds of drag races with mine including full bore nitrous powered launches on very sticky drag radials. My 60 foot times are down to 1.55, 0-60 is under 3 seconds.

I know there are other options but I don't know if they are proven to this level of abuse.
My T5 gearbox has been rebuilt and modified by John Reid and still works perfectly.
I did break a crown wheel in the BTR but that was a smaller diameter 3.08 I had in at the time. I have the original spec 3.45:1 back in there and its fine.

Any opinions on CV joints, Derek? Are you on standard or super-strong ones? If already covered above, apologies
