additives ????

every time I go into Halfords or similar I see alot of things and read them out of interest there are
octane boosters
slick 50
redex
etc
etc

What additives have you tried and do they actually do anything for a chim??

I did an internet search on slick 50 and found a lot of disturbing comments about how it doesn't really work and blocks the oil filter so I wouldn't put it in mine. However I have spoken to taxi drivers who swear by it with engines that have done serious mileages.

Redex injector cleaner works. I have used it for years & I swear it makes a difference.
As for oil additives I used to use molyslip but with modern oils I doubt that there is much of a need for it. In fact, come to think of it, with modern petrol I doubt the injector cleaner does make much difference except in my mind.

Save your money. The only additive worth anything is an octane boost for doctoring 95 U/L. I use Millers which is a lot cheaper than the stuff in Halfords.

On a note to the last post, after managing to drain the company cars of many tanks of 95 fuel with my secret home made device.. I want to put this in my chim 400 and enjoy sum free motoring..

Wha may i add to this to make it compatible with my chim or can i just put the 95ron stuff straight in??

I used to put redex in my A4 diesel every 5000 miles or so, can't really tell if it made a difference but the engine was rock solid right up to 138000 miles, at which point I sold it (to upgrade).
