Otter switch , washer?

Just rebuilding the coolant system and need to install the thermostatic fans switch in rad.

When it was taken out of the rad before the recore it had just silicone sealant on it, should it have a fibre washer? Rubber? ptfe tape?Or just sealant?

What have you used?

Just a normal copper washer on the original.

mine was a parallel thread so the seal is made at the top shoulder of the thread, ptfe and sealants are good for tapered threads, imho.

Having said that, when needs must, ptfe can be twisted and wrapped around the top to "bunch up" and form a substitute washer.
