I would like to inspect my fuse box and refit it correctly, from looking at it it looks like there is a metal stud going through to the footwell that it should bolt to, but it doesn't as the stud looks broken, the fuse appears to sort of hang there, possibly semi held in place with cables ties or something, it just feels like it's hanging from the cables, should it release freely with all the cables to the back still connected?, obviously I don't want to pull on it much if that's normal.
Thanks
Paul

My Griff has a grp slant-backed box bolted to the back of the fusebox, and that then bolts through into the wheelarch with one bolt - not the most secure solution as it can move about a bit. I have screwed a bit of bent steel underneath it to give it a bit of support. Rubbish design.
Without that one fixing bolt yes it would just be hanging by the wires.

Looking at the fuse box from inside the car you will see a central nut. This holds the fuse box to the above mentioned fibre glass moulding.

Look just to the left of this nut and a bit lower down and you will see another nut. Its this one that holds the lot to the bulkhead. Bolt head is got to in the wheel arch.

Mine doesn't feel to have anything like a nut holding it though, it moves up or down by at least an inch as though fixed to something very flexible, but assuming it was fixed correctly what would happen if you remove the nut, is there enough slack in the cables to pull it forward or lay it down to allow access to the back of it?

Yes, with the fixing(s) removed it'll flop down into the footwell with no problem, quite a lot of spare cable on it - on mine anyway.

So I removed the bolt in the centre, and as stated the fuseboard comes out, what a mess behind it though.
But now I can see that my actual issue is the box the fuse board fits into isn't fixed to anything at the top, I don't see any fixing of any type, but then again I can't see so well in there.
Any thoughts?

I was equally appalled by the mess in the footwell so moved the fuse box to the glove box.

So much easier to rectify wiring problems and it tidies up the footwell:

Hi guys
Any thoughts or preferably a photo of what holds the top of the fuse board box in place?, at the moment mine only locates at the bottom and everything just flops around so the fuses virtually point downwards and are hidden behind the battery.

The top lip of the GF moulding the fusebox fits into should tuck under a lip high up on the bulkhead.

Hi Steve, thanks for the info, I don't seem to have a lip to locate in, it makes sense that there should be one though, but at least I now know how it should fit
