Guess where my battery negative cable is earthed? Betcha can't.
Thought I'd have a look at the earths and starter cables with a view to upgrading as I have just changed the starter motor after two delayed hot start/dead solenoid experiences, also planning a relay to the solenoid circuit to help the ignition switch out. No immobiliser relay on my car - jap spec Griff.
One black neg cable comes off the battery, up through the bulkhead and having just pulled it straight down into the footwell... see that googled pic of the throttle area with the yellow terminals going into a 10mm bolt... that there was my one and only battery earth point.
I suspect this may be incorrect (!)

Where is it supposed to be please?!! I have a good clean chassis earth to engine block cable in the wheel arch, but where would the original battery cable terminate to? Tried a few searches on here, but I'm obviously not picking the correct search terms. Thanks in advance smile

Think they're supposed to be on the tunnel next to the battery, mine is like this...

Mine was earthed onto the chassis under the passenger side dash

If you feel the carpets you should beable to feel where there is a hole in the fibreglass of the transmission tunnel ( if that makes sense at all )

Thank you for that, those pics are worth 1000 words - I have now found the original cable running to the earth under the centre console has been cut off under the carpet, leaving just a few inches of cable running to the earthing bolt. Why?!
confused
Plan B : order chunkier custom made earth cables, one to replace the missing/snipped original, and a second to run to a nice-looking tapped hole I've found in the engine block. Upgrading the +ve starter cable over the bellhousing looks a trickier job, so I'll do the earths and a solenoid relay and see how it goes.
It's always spun over fine in the two years I've had it, scary to think it's been running the starter and everything else off that pressed steel bracket.

As said the main negative battery cable should be on the top of the tunnel.
The rest of those black cables should be on a stud which is in the back of the engine block just above the sump mounting face.

It's in that location purely because of the battery location. If the battery were to be moved to, say, the boot, you could use the body to chassis bolts behind the tank.
