Who's going to Goodwood in their Chimaera tomorrow?

The weather is actually looking Ok, should be a good morning chaps thumbup

You'll find me and 'Ol Gasbag' on the track where I'll running a spark plug workshop, I'll be presenting the benefits of moving to a "6" plug whistle

If you can't find me its because my engine blew up on the way down due to iridium spark plug engine damage.. cry

Won't be able to go, but am interested to see your presentation ChimpOnGas. Does LPG require different plugs for better efficiency? Can you make a YouTube vid and send a link out later?

I'd love to drive all that way down to Goodwood but unfortunately for me, the NGK recommended spark plugs in my car - "the dreadful B7ECS" - will soot up and cause misfiring rolleyes

Better report James Agger Autosport to Trading Standards for fitting the correct recommended plugs when he sold me the car, then pre-turbo and running well type
And really must get on to Powers and tell Dom he hasn't a clue phone Or I could drive down but will the car make it that far....confused

Brilliant, actually I noticed I'm running a fraction rich when squeezing on the smile pedal today...

It's probably just my plugs fouling up tongue out

Air 35 ?
Is this taken from within engine bay or is is ambient temp. Does that not seem a bit high this time of year, I know you live down south but hehe

Unfortunately its a long way of 35 degrees even darn sarf mate, you're seeing the air temp just before it passes through the throttle body, and in this case after a lot of idling.

Some put their air temp sensor up near the filter, I would rather the ECU was seeing the true temp of the air the engine was actually receiving.

Saying that its possible the sensor itself may be getting heat soaked as it's screwed into an aluminium pipe just before my smooth bore elbow, essentially the ally pipe gets heated by the O/S exhaust manifold directly below it.

Is my air temp really 35 degrees or is some of what we're seeing just a measurement of how hot the ally pipe is getting?

It's an interesting question and one I'd welcome input from others on ears

I think you are reading the ali pipe temp.
Now you have no MAF I would be extending the heat shield right along as far as you can go.
For test purpose get the car warm and read your temp then remove the sensor. Remove the elbow at the throttle body and tuck the sensor inside the elbow and refit the elbow with the lead poking out. You don't have air leak issues as it is un-metered. You won't even need to use the clip just to run the test.

If it works then I have seen sensors just screwed into a tight hole in the hose. A good location would be right up beside the throttle body either on top or round the side close to the throttle mechanism.

Dom can sort that for you, hehe

When I first got mine back I was a bit concearned this would stay air tight but it's fine, very easy to remove the wiring clip if I need to remove plenum/elbow.

When I get mine checked out I'll endeavour to check the readings when it's all hot, I have a small section of Alley pipe that joins the elbow and air pipe together so mostly just rubber, the elbow gets warm but not exactly hot.

Thanks Steve, I've been considering just this, and thanks Alun, that definitely looks like the better way to do it thumbup

I'd certainly be very interested to hear what air temps people typically see, my ally pipe gets very hot indeed so I'd be surprised it it wasn't it's giving me false readings TBH.

Powers approach works well like that Dave wink I agree with Steve D on your one yes I relocated mine down to the air cleaner stub but I think thats not necessary TBH like mentioned just wrap your pipe and sensor smokin the one on the car that is rolleyes

Excellent Simon (others), I'll do just that, do you have figures for your air temps to give me an idea of what's normal?

I'd be interested to know as a comparison, I'm sure my sensor is getting heat soaked off the hot ally pipe.

Thanks, Dave.

Nope, I just had to move 2 (heavy) oil drums that were chained together.

O/T, Peter with your newfound/extra time are you coming out to play this year? The Chim contingent could do with a man of your skills.

confused

Must have been a later arrival creating a different parking dynamic after I'd arrived.

I certainly didn't block anyone in, there was literally tons of space around me when I locked up.... on arrival I simply reverse parked neatly next to another car in a line of other cars, there was actually masses of space between us, so much space in fact my mate initially parked there in his BMW I3, before deciding he preferred a slightly bigger spot.

Talking MX5s did you see the one on the track? it looked like someone had bolted the front end from a Karman Ghia on it.

Each to their own and all that, but I can't see that facelift winning many hearts vomit

Well I only use it in the warmer parts of the year Dave but its around the 20's/30's it still picks up a little heat soak when you switch off from the stagnent air in the nose from the rad but generally its very consistent and stable wink at the rate the air moves through that 3" pipe you want to monitor outside air temps rather than under bonnet heat soak anyway IMO
