brake light switch

please could someone tell me what the brake light switch on a 97 chim is also fitted to or part number.thanks jay

Anything and everything. Get down to your local motor factors and a couple of quid will sort you out. I think the nearest fit for mine was a Rover 214/6. However, if you take the switch it shouldn't be a problem.

Of topic but out of interest,its also identical to the hand brake switch.

Are you sure it's faulty? These switches are mounted on a bendy bracket. If it has been knocked it can cause the switch either to not work at all or to come on constantly. Just bend it back a bit and try it out.

likewise I thought mine was buggered when neither of the brake lights worked - turned out it was the wiper park switch blowing a shared fuse...

test it with a multimeter to be certain.

Oh, and I would just order one from TVR-gear. I ordered a new one on my S3 from David Batty at The Garage in Compton.

yep, same on the S3. As I needed to use the car I swapped them over for a few weeks so I just didnt have a little light on the dash to tell me when the handbrake was on, but I did have brake lights....

The actual switch does work loose at the actual brake pedal arm, and so brake lighst don't come on - nothing to do with the 'electrics'.

When I collected my car from York I had this problem (but IIRC the switch is located on the fixed braket rather than the pedal). The problem for me was that once loose and out of place the brake lights are on constantly (switch is press-to-break the circuit).

After 3+ hours motoring (unbeknown to me with brake lights on -- must have looked a right t**t) the heat from the bulbs had softned the lenses to the extent that one of them had fallen out of the holder and was sitting behind the perspex panel and the other was just about to!
Was a right pain in the a**e, had to remove one of the covers and re-position both lenses, one of which I had to superglue in place because it had distorted slightly and wouldnt stay in the holder.

The message being these 21w bulbs generate a lot of heat in constant use and you cant tell if your brake lights are on in normal driving. I check my switch from time to time.
