So going for a bit of a new look with the Orange Chim - now it's not going on the track anymore I wanted to put some bigger wheels on it - after reading this http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=159... thread - came up with the following -

Front - 4x108 - 7.5J - 25 ET - Tyre - Michelin Pilot Sport 4 - 215/45/17
Rear - 4x108 - 8J - 35 ET - Tyre - Michelin Pilot Sport 4 - 235/45/17

Black Matt - Team Dynamics Pro - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/competiti...

Could I go 245 on rear with it rubbing? or would I need to go lower profile?

These are a track day set .

215 45 17

235 45 17

Galaxy silver .

Ive seen 245 45.17 on the Chimaera and when Ive asked they said they fit without rubbing .

245 40 17 are wider than 245 45 17 for some reason. , 245 40 17 look to small .

Nick/John, you should be fine on 245/40/17 on the rear with a wheel offset of 33 to 35. I ran this size on R888 for a little while with no issues on road or track.

So far always 225/45/16 Daz either T1-R, R888 or AD08R with just some minor ride height changes between them. Have been using the 4 pot, WMS (Wilwood copies) with 300 mm vented discs for almost 4 years.
I'm about to try something a bit more extreme tyre wise shortly for competition purposes................(waits for joke about Dolphins from Anthony!!!!!!!)

Richard858 is spot on the 245's don't rub even with the square shoulder R888 etc list 1B tyres however - if like me you go 255 40 17 on the rear they may just rub slightly under hard cornering - assuming that griffs and chims have the same lateral clearance

I wonder how Rainsports hold up against a more track focused tyre on the road.
If you don't mind a bit of muck everynow and then, put these on a Nick, cheaper than a night out on the beer and you can actually chuck it about,,, right now, this time of year,, I'm well inside the danger zone and still ripping about, like a Mini,,, a real one at that,

If you like a bit of rallying you'll love these knobblies hehe
I can't really say what they are like in the dry or warm weather but so far for the road I'm having a blast,, The rear end is totally different out of junctions and roundabouts,
Reasonable N/A torque curve has me spinning easily on T1R in 3 gears,
I can actually accelerate out of a corner rather than afer it hehe
They make noise too,,,,
Just buy em, we need a hard core boy to tell me if I'm right wink
I'm way worried about the side wall at high speed so my experience of them does not include dry fast driving... into a tight corner or through a fast sweeper,,,

I'm sounding like a well known likeable salesman I /we all know and love yes

Hi all.

I have 245 /45x16 tyres on my Chimaera as standard and they have never caused a problem.
It looks as if there is loads of clearance at standard ride height.

I have some new wheels to fit, 8.5x17 et35 and am sorely tempted to fit the 255/40x17 tyres. Some say they will rub, others not. The pics. of the cars that rub all seem to be lower than standard though.

I guess there is only one way to find out.....

Regards Chris.

^ +1 just a little trimming for 255 on track but ok for normal road use with ride heights set apprpriatley. A bit more trimming required for 265, and even more for 275!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉

Thanks do you have much clearence from the calliper to the rim ? You have the same wheels so trying to work out if larger than 300 mm fil fit without spacers.

Know what you mean Alun, I did the Aldeburgh fish and chip run with the car club lads a couple of Sunday's ago, still have my original T1R's on the back, which now feel like plastic rather than rubber... It was raining just about all day, dark miserable, but had to be done.. Junctions and roundabouts were an absolute hoot, I kept imagining these guys were watching me....... smile

Reminder to self.... New Tyres Needed Soonest biggrin

Been running rainsports on 17/18's for a year now and very good although they did 'go off' with extreme twisties in the warm after an hour or so - but still very predictable 'drifting'

I have used Rs3 on the road and track. They hold on great. Like all road tyres the go off under sustained track action. However, I once did a 45-min stint in the dry at Snetts on them with out them going off. Then again, later that day they went off after 20-mins when I stepped up my driving a fair bit.

I now use NS-2R trackday tyres for TDs which, so far, haven't gone off just get nice a grippy.

With the power your car possesses T1R's that have stood in the cold so harder than a hard thing,,, your a brave man I'll say that biggrin

Tyre spin in 3 gears on T1R's in the dry
Hardly any wheel spin in first gear on Rainsports, very impressive stuff.
Or more like
80/100 % chance of wheelspin on T1R
80% chance I won't wheelspin with Rainsports and that's at this time of year..... when it was dry the other day but 2 degrees above freezing.
The euro requirement for a winter tyre has led to these sorts of tyre I believe ?

Perfect for a road going Chim that needs grip and compliance.
It's never been more comfortable to drive, softened out many of the road imperfections that can really get on your nerves.

Well impressed so far.
