Boot opening drivers door?

Hi guys, so I've now been and looked at my father in laws chim where he can't open the boot.

After some advice on access, ( it's a 96 car with back-lit plate ) without going into detail on here, the drivers door is opening instead of the boot when we follow the process.

Anybody have any ideas? If not its off to powers for a look.

What happens when you push the button under the dash, is there a click or does nothing happen? Checked the fuses etc?
