A couple of photos of the new bonnet hinge box panel replacement. Plesantly surprised how easily the old one came out and with a bit of filing the new one slotted in very nicely. Well worth the £25 for the replacement section in my view and hopefully a better repair than trying to fix in a new bolt, particularly as it had been botched up before.

I drilled out the poprivets and used self tappers to replace them on the front edge. I used a sikaflex type product to bond the lower edge and the top around the hinge areas. It didn't need a lot of clamping as it was a nice fit after a bit of filing. It's still curing as I only did it today but it seems very good and that stuff sticks virtually anything.
My car is a 98 Chimaera.Hope that's of some help.

Thanks for the information. Mine is a 93' so i don't know if the mouldings are the same?
Mine is coming away from the main bonnet part, so i will have to take a closer look at it and determine if it is the same as yours before ordering.
cheers.

Interested in this repair because I have a loose bolt on one side of the bonnet and there's a small patch repair already there indicating that it's been fixed previously. I don't see the point in repeating a bodge if there's a better way.

Is the procedure to fix the bolt (pin) into the box and then bond the box onto the bonnet?

No the new hinge box panel comes with the hinge bolts already moulded in. Test fitted the bonnet today and it was good and will adjust nicely.
I took a lot of care to clean up the fibreglass lumps that were left behind when I cut out the old panel and test fitted a number of times to check alignment before sticking it in. I scribed some lines from the old panel onto the bonnet so that they were visible when I lined up the new one.
All in all pretty straightforward and a nice looking repair when done.

Thanks for those words :-)

I hadnt realised how much in demand these would be, sold about 4 in the last couple of months, so Im trying to keep one on the shelf. need to make another one for stock now as the one on the shelf has just been ordered !!!

The hinge box is the same for Mk1 and mk2 Bonnet.

Interestingly our mk2 moulded X pattern stiffener also fits the mk1 bonnet if you want to get rid of the alloy pole and have a stiffer bonnet.

Should have been on commission!

Glad to have helped.

Worth noting that I have no connection with Graham, just a happy customer

Worth counting the threads on the hinges if you are going to wind them out and free them off prior to refitting. I would also mark the position of the brackets on the body for refitting. I took my bonnet off ages ago and didn't and spent quite a while adjusting when refitting. Some adjustment might well be needed anyway ast the position of the new hinge panel may differ slightly anyway..

I used a Erbauer multi cutter with a flat blade to cut out the old panel. It worked well as you can keep it really flat.

Good luck with the repair
