I see that most of the fixings between my body and chassis have had sealant applied in between, I assume this is to stop water ingress, is this normal or recommended?

That is how it came out of the factory. Normally a white PU type sealant not silicone.

Is it worthwhile doing though, it just seems like to put sealent there on all 30 odd bolts then drop the body onto the chassis, by the time you put the bolts through, the sealant will be going off inside the threaded holes causing a real PITA, any thoughts?

My thoughts, use a non setting sealant, something like this.... clicky

The body goes on dry.
The sealant around the seatbelt bolts is applied from inside the car once the body is on.
Other bolts simply need a ring of sealant under the bolt head as they are fitted.
