urgent: won't let me in

my 97 chim has decided not to let me in this morning.

i've tried both key fobs, on my main fob neither of the buttons do anything, on my second fob the 'unlock' button does nothing but the second (personal alarm button?!?) makes the car emit one short beep
the red light on the dash is off, the light on the contact switch is flashing normally.
the door buttons made half an unlocking sound the first time i tried them and now nothing (on either)

any ideas? i know how to break in if i need to

..sounds like a battery issue, has it been replaced in the last few years..? If I was you I'd get into the car via the means you already know, and then test the battery.

a new battery was put in 5 months ago when i bought the car so i hope that isn't the problem

...without testing some of the electricals I'm afriad you aren't going to find out much from outside the car though. (other than the fact that its a little chilly this morning )

If your electrics are ok but your radio doesn't work then this is probably what's happened. The radio is on the same fuse as the door release (on mine anyway). Good luck!

Yup, you were right. the battery seems to be dead

out of interest though, the way in that i had heard of doesn't seem to be possible
