Very childish...

Yes very childish, and I really should know better... especially at my advanced age.... BUT...
New BMW 535D shot past me in a last minute pull in to exit left off the ring road onto the M11... he'd been sitting behind me for a while, itching to get by.... (you just know these things).... then he went into the left lane at the lights, and I went into the middle lane.. which also lets you go left
So... I was in front as we went through the lights and left onto the dual carriageway... he immediately switched lanes so he was right behind me... and very close... I accelerated at reasonable pace up to 70.... and he sat a few feet off my rear...
Now, the reason I'm posting this, is because this was exactly the same stretch of dual carriageway where, about five and a half years ago me and beastie were embarrassed by a mum in a 535D estate because I was too lazy to change down... In fact that was a defining moment in our relationship and a major factor in the subsequent engine rebuild spec at V8D..... (I started a thread about it...
)
So, here we are, five and half years later, exactly the same spot, brand new white 535D right up my chuff.... Bloke itching to blow away a two seater soft top in his top of the range diseasil.. Anyway, it was very childish of me to react, I should have just pulled over into the left hand lane and let him blast on...
So, I just wanted to share the moment as I feel that honour has been properly and unequivocally served.... with no doubt regarding the outcome... So much for seven speed auto milli second gear change traction control monstrous torque Bavarian diseasil barges.....

No Rob... but I am slightly ashamed that I even rose to it.... very immature and nothing to be proud of......

Grow up man

See it's all that power you have there, corrupts

Don't worry about it, I've been goaded and a part of me permanently wants to Wup em. After showing off a few times I'm now able to smile and think even at this speed my cars better so leave em to it, actually I let em get ahead and in one roundabout f
k with their heads by being up close without even using the power. Most peoples idea of fast isn't particularly fast
Driving god No 2 knows your ahead by miles Chilli boy

All in jest and a pinch of salt guys
I'm more likely to bottle it and hit my left indicator allowing them to make progress
You did better than me I was out for a drive round today and on the way back through finchingfield there must of been getting on for a hundred bikes parked up, two followed me out out the village and there was a bit of engine revving on both sides, when we got to the end of the 30 mph limit, they both came past on their back wheels.
I went back to tootle mode.
I went back to tootle mode.
Several decades ago a good friend was out for a nice night on the town with a new girlfriend in his dark blue Mk2 Jaguar when boy racer types comes up alongside at a set of lights tootign the horn and revving the engine. Now Eddie looks over to the new girlfriend to say something and as his eyes sweep left spots the "Jam Sandwhich" cruising up behind so he turns to the right and the boy race puts his thumb up and reves the Jag a bit all the time leaving it in neutral.
Boy racer now really starts revving the engine and intently watch the light sand as they change floors it and drops the clutch with wheels spinning off he shoots. Eddies eases into first to the sight of blue flashing lights racing past in pursuit and the sound of the siren. A few hundred yeards up the road is before mentioned boy racer pulled over with two coppers with him out beside his car. Eddie and girlfriend cruise by and wave sweetly. Wish I had been there to see it but hearing it from him and later Janets version was hilarious.

Congrats Chilli.
... though just be careful of the adrenaline rush at your advanced years
Thanks chaps, this completely unnecessary sitting a few feet behind can be intimidating to some, and I regard it as a type of bullying... I'm paranoid about leaving safe distances between me and the car in front... There's no doubt if beastie had a sudden loss of power (which she never has) diseasil man would have run straight into the back of me.. That sounds a bit holier than thou and a touch on the pious side
Maybe he thought beastie was an MX5

I get the impression that Audis and BMWs have a page in the dealer handover instructions (no bloke ever reads the manual) all about slip-streaming for better fuel economy.
Maybe he thought beastie was an MX5
I agree with you, Chilli - driving the A1 (a road named after a small Audi) regularly in the evening in the dark, if I have lights 6 feet from my arse at 70 mph, it is always either a Foreskindurchtechnik, or an Ultimatedrinkingmachine.
If the lights are there at 5 am, it will be Largevanman instead.
He probably polishes his craft in a BMW on the weekends.

Childish is best!
Mine has been stuck in the garage and hasn't put many miles on it in recent months and I had a spare couple of hours and some rare deserted roads yesterday.
God these things can be quick if you get some grip, plus my change-up "back-fire" on mid-throtle has returned.

I just need to find out if I can get someone to put some firmer springs on the back before I take it to Spa and scare the crap out of me and my lad when we take on the mighty Eau Rouge next month as I have always thought they were too soft and after driving the pork, it is even more noticeable!

Gaz monos, with 325 springs at the rear. I had a lot firmer on the last car and I have thought about firming up the dampers but this weekend reconvinced me to change the springs I've got a full set of uprated ones in the garage, nothing wrong with them just cosmetically not 100% if your interested? ( couldn't justify putting them back on when I had everything all shiny and new)

Thanks. Could well be! I was going to call into the factory and ask them what they recommend. Las time they changed them for me as well!
