Replacement Keys

Just picked up my Chim 500 from Fernhurst - and what a beauty she is. It's my first experience of TVR motoring, and it's gonna take months to wipe the smile off my face.

But - NOT impressed by an Opel Key!! I want to repace it with something more fitting and classy. Anyone done this or got ideas where I can get a TVR-branded key? I have searched - I drew a blank

I've thought about the same thing. I reckon the best bet would be to upgrade the locks and ignition to something from a Vectra or Omega? They might share the same dimensions, but at least the key is a bit nicer.

Other option is to have something made up, but that would be a bit expensive.

I know what you mean, my last car Fiat Coupe had a luverly aluminium key...would match all those Leven extra's

you can get a tvr key where the meta alarm fob is built in to the key like on the tuscans,tamoras etc.then you just have the tvr logo like your fob has.order one from tms,or tvr direct.

I need two new locks and the ignition key done! Can't locate any

At the moment I'm pondering converting the door locks with just buttons, that way I just need the one lock for the ignition.

Vauxhall locks, thats all they are. I had the same type of key on my Vauxhall Carlton.

After a few weeks of owning a TVR you won't worry about such trivia as teh logo on the key! After all are you worried about the Land Rover logo on the air flow meter, or the Ford logo on the upside down rear lamp clusters etc. Just drive the thing, it's a non issue. Rich...

Or contact Carl at www.tvruk.tv and around £15 plus vat buys a kit that converts a naff key into one with the meta remote built in. Did mine last week and it really is simple to do and the key looks soooooooooo much better after, no more plip on the keyring either.

You can do the job yourself. I have and the process is quite staightforward. Cut the plastic/rubber off the exisiting key. You will notice a hole through the t-shaped end. Open the alarm remote cut the end there are some guide lines on the case to help. I then heated the metal key and used the hot key to ensure a tight fit. Using the exsisting hole drill through the alarm casing and use a small (4BA)countersunk bolt and using the same heating technique sink the nut into the casing. I did one of mine 3 years ago and after a year did the other. Cost Nothing and took less than an hour.

After much research, I am going to have Carl at www.tvr.tv.uk have modify both key fobs so the alarm/immob button is in the head of the key. He's also going to attach a remote boot opening system so I dont have to keep turning on the ignition to open the boot. Which is a complete mare to us newbie TVR-pilots...

Sounds good and as I was thinking about installing a remote boot opener as well, sounds even better. Is he going to fit the electrics for the boot opener? also can you tell me how much it is all going to cost?

He said about £140+VAT for 2 Keys (with buttons in the Fob) and a boot-opening kit. Sounds OK to me! Don't worry Big Al - I wont be doing it until may. Carl said he was working up at Fernies right now - this must be on your Tusc...

Remote boot opener just as easy to make, needs one relay and one no volts relay or reed switch.

Trick is to find a supply that is only available when immobiliser is inactive.

Again mine is available for view at East Mids meeting although given the sad news about Toby I am not sure when the next meeting will be.
