Protec shock setup
Discussion
HI
Just about finished my rebuild, i fired up the engine last night, but before i put the wheels on and remove the axle stands i wonder if anyone has any measurements of spring setup to give me a starting point, i guess a measurement of how much thread is visible at the bottom of the spring adjuster would be a good starting point.
The shocks are the single damper and spring adjustable type fitted to a 95 500.
Thanks
Paul

Not sure on length but they should come set up pretty near!
I think you have little choice but drop it on to its wheels and take some measurements from corners of riggers to a level floor and go from there.
My fronts were set up at least 40 mm thread showing if that helps, can't remember the rears but possibly even higher.
Just found a pic of my fronts. As you can see wound right up and then when the cars sits on them they sag so you don't have a lot of travel!
Do you know the spring rates ( on the top part of spring )

i couldnt find the spring rate on the spring, i did ask at the shop i bought them from but they couldnt remember, they also said it would be on the top of the spring, so just standard, whatever that is.
I have lowered it down and measured to the bottom of the out rigger, i have approx 120mm at the front and 130 at the back, i guess thats a bit low from what i have read on this forum, would something like 140 front and 155 back be about right?.
If i want to increase by 10mm do i make approx 15mm on the spring, does that work trying to calculate it?
I took the car for a little cruise round the block, it felt absolutely terrible, so i see what people mean about the importance of a good setup, the only trouble is that i have a fair drive to my nearest TVR specialist, would it be worth getting a local garage to do their thing and then get a specialist to check it?, i have had new suspension bushes, track rod ends, shocks, ball joints etc so i guess it needs a complete reset.
