Bye bye beastie
Discussion
It is with great regret that after months of agonising I have finally set a date to commence beastie's rebirth, following which she will not see the light of day for many months, although various bits of her will be going off to different places for various jobs which I cannot undertake myself (or can't be arsed). This will be the first time since we got married I became her new custodian that she (and I) will miss the joys of roof down winter motoring, those early morning misty hoons on damp country roads and the fresh smell of a new wintry day dawning, the watery sun rising above the leafless canopy of a lonely copse, a fox, late for bed scampering across a deserted T junction, and the faint hoot of a never to be seen barn owl.... the small sleepy villages, simple country folk still in their beds, woken from their dreamy slumbers by beastie sticking to the 40mph speed limit in first gear at 6000rpm...
So, the 31st of August is the day, not set a target completion date yet, and whilst I have plenty of 'must do's', I'm sure new ideas (and more expenditure) will crop up along what will be, for both of us, an exciting and rewarding journey
Oh, and you lot probably won't be interested, but during a recent period of weather inducedmadness idleness I foolishly bought a new present for Moneypenny.....(or Moneypit as my ex wife calls her)

Just for a larf mind

Loving the evocative prose, Chilli. You certainly have something of the Wordsworth about you.
I can just see you quoting him:
"I wondered lonely as a cloud,
That floats on high o'er dales and hills
When all at once I saw a crowd
And wondered, what was in those pills?"
God, how I miss those 5am Norfolk drives, dicing with the Tesco lorries on the A47 without ever getting out of second gear, and wondering if my odometer would ever manage to click over from 70,000 miles.
It's a wonderful county and I do miss living there.
These days I live about 15 miles from Daz......nuff said.
I nearly went for a roof off drive at 2 o'clock this morning, but as I reached for the keys, unable to sleep, I remembered the two large glasses of red wine I had drunk during the evening and refrained.
Had to make do with a drive this morning into Newark the long way (via Newcastle-upon-Tyne and -under-Lyme), three times round Asda's underground car park, and frightening the horses down at the stable yard. Trouble is, since I modified mine last winter, one unexpected side-effect of adding the turbo is that the car is quieter than a Nissan Leaf in a library.

Come on the Richard. I must have compiled a few Tvr dream parts lists in my time and ordered them up too
What's your dream list. It might start and end at a diff ii I know better
what a difference that's made
Is it a chassis and engine re fresh.
The Chassis when you look close is a few pipes and hoses and bushes. It's not that big a deal.
Don't forget cable ties,,, you'll need a few dozen of them
Any new extras your thinking of or just tuning what you've got which is a mighty Beastie indeed.

Richard, you had me thinking then, that maybe you were selling beastie and Aston, putting some cash in and getting a V12 Vantage with 517hp n/a
the there's the V12S with 571hp n/a all wrapped in a Vantage.
Now there's a thought
Go on Chilli, go on! you know you want to

Morning Gentleman, and thank you for all the nice replies. I have just got home after nearly three weeks afloat, and have much car stuff to be getting on with, although I have some work stuff to do first... I have however fired up beastie, moneypenny, and little skip, all first turn of the key jobbies, and transferred the newly purchased cheesy reg onto moneypenny... 5 minute job online, so off shortly to get the new plates made up
I think my days of needing a stupidly quick car may be nearing their end, and I have no real intentions of bolting FI kit onto beastie, indeed I'm thinking of 'down' camming to something a little more lazy, perhaps move the torque a little lower down the rev range and a bit less overlap (and maybe not so smelly). Who knows, the future is after all, a blank canvas where beastie is concerned...
As for a V12V, starting prices at the moment appear to be high 70k low 80k, so that's a non starter, apart from which I'm not overly keen on the looks of the convertible Vantage, and having a rag top in the inventory is an absolute must, so beastie stays.... for another year or two at least
Early morning country hoons are great in the coupe, but far better without a roof....
Give you a ring later in the week John
Mac, you're a bad man

I observe a number of interesting comments there Richard.

Cam, very good idea and helps driving like an auto.
I don't want to do 100 mph to feel the excitement, I love the torque out of bends or off the lights, makes it easy to drive in any gear with less chance of shunting.
Not so smelly,,, very interesting as I've just put my Clive Y up for beer tokens as I'm going back to catted. The smell being one of the main reasons. I'll miss its looks but I like my sleeved exhaust sound as it's a bit quieter in the cab. Standard exhaust boom exhaust causes havoc with one ear!!! My ear is clearly the problem as the other ear loves it

I've also just put Koni Shocks on as I'm softening the car down and I'm loving it.
Good ideas Richard
