I've just bought a set of Hi-Spec calipers from Hans and just getting around to fitting them.

Unfortunately the instructions on the hi-spec site are somewhat lacking in detail. I've partly dismantled my existing brakes and am ready for fitting the bracket and calipers but not sure which washers to use and where.

The fastenings in the kit (this set per caliper) are as per the 1st pic
  • a 4 x locking washers. These came in pairs stuck to each other.
  • b 4 x flat washers
  • c 2 x flat washers, slightly thicker than b but also slightly smaller

Do the lock washers go at either end of the bracket mount as per this pic at the top.
and are the flat washers just spacers/shims to try and get the caliper central and or between the caliper and the mounting bracket.

Alternatively does the lock washer go in 2's on the bolt holding the caliper to the mounting bracket as per this pic.

Any other tips gratefully received.

Proper lovely.
Others will know these better than me and I'd check with supplier anyway. Can we see more side on pics of these please. I'm slightly confused how the brackets attract to calipers through the caliper body like as in your last pic. I'd have thought the last pic is correct as if that's how those bolts clamp the bracket to caliper they will be subject to lots of vibration and risk of loosening. Plenty of locktite will do a similar thing in keeping those bolts tight.
Regardless of the serrated washers always use locktite imho

Nordlock washers are good kit. Pricey, but they work.

I'd suggest you invest in more - a pair on each of the calliper mounting brackets (you know they are supposed to work in pairs, right?) and a pair for each of the calliper mounting screws.

You can use loctite if you like, but I'd suggest sticking to Strawberry flavour.

If you use Apple flavour, you'll likely round the screws off if you don't use a blowtorch to get heat into the screws and melt / thermally decompose the loctite. It's very stubborn.

If you use Blueberry flavour, you might find the screws back out anyway (unlikely with lockwashers too, but you never can never know until it happens) since Blueberry is designed for low torque applications or very small screws.

The lock washers are used in pairs with the coarse sides against each other (these are normally supplied lightly glued together as a pair). These will be for the bolts holding the caliper onto the bracket.
The other washers and nyloc nuts are used for mounting the bracket to the hub carrier.

Like this, if you're unsure and haven't used them before;

Thanks, these look like the ones. So on the adaptor I'd put a pair at both bolt head and nut ends and I don't need to use in combination with a standard washer?

Will this do? I'll get the washers too.

Yes they came glued. As per other response I'll get some more.

Some side shots with the bolts in place.

These are from my test fitment. I was concerned that the disc wasn't completely central in the caliper but I think it was just my viewing angle.

Sorry I cant help with the fitting, but can i ask which discs you are using?

I currently have the cosworth 888/887 calipers and discs, but was wondering if the Hispec calipers would work with my current discs?

Thanks, yes that's how I thought it looked. Offers a wide grabbing point ( less vibration)

I'm no expert so rather not comment on fitment

I think they are going to work rather well.

I'll get the part number later when I find the paperwork I think they're Sierra Cosworth 2WD discs.

Mine are 15" so I hope so. I just contacted Hans from on here and he sorted out all the parts. He's obviously had a bunch made up with the TVR logo in place of the Hi-Spec logo.

All fitted and after a few slow laps of the neighbourhood I'm happy with the install of these. It took me longer than it perhaps should have to fit them as I wasn't 100% on a few details having not done anything other than swap like for like discs and pads before. Once I'd got straight in my head the order everything fitted (mainly spacer and washer placement which isn't in the documentation on the Hi-Spec site it assumes knowledge) and managed to dismantle the old seized bolts and cleaned up the surfaces fitting is straight forward and not too time consuming. Bleeding was straightforward with use of a vacuum bleed kit once I'd sussed not to open the bleed nipple too much and I've now replaced the old fluid with fresh.

Caliper fitted rear view.

Caliper fitted side view.

Fitted with 15" wheel on showing clearance

Thanks for the helpful posts above and Hans for the offer of assistance.

As per email Tony but I'll post dimensions here for others. Disc are Sierra Cosworth 2WD fit and are 283mm diameter and 24mm thick. They aren't a huge amount larger than standard and offer a decent amount of clearance on my standard Imola 15" rims.

Hi warren,

How are you getting on with these. I'm fancying this as a winter upgrade along with new shocks.

Do you have Hans's contact details?

They're great. My had a warp on one of my original discs and one of the calipers wasn't running freely so I don't have a true before and after but they now feel like I expect a car of the performance should have. I'd previously experienced fade after a spirited run and now I have no such issue. They look great too and they get positive comments from the other guys at my local club.

Cheers, warren,

I decided to go with this kit from Hans, but need to decide on pads. Car will be used for fast road with the possibility of the odd track day, but also need something that will work ok from cold.

Options are:
EBC green, red or yellow
Ferodo ds2500 or ds3000
Mintex 1144 or 1155

Im swaying towards the ds2500 at the moment, but they are almost double the price of the EBC red or yellow stuff, any recommendations?

Hans recommended the Mintex for road use and I've not had any issues with fade or an inability to pull up. I swapped out the fluid when I did the upgrade and I'm sure that helps too.
