Will not lock!!!!

Hi all, have just cleaned the outside to now find that my car will not lock!!!, The alarm sets and locks the doors but then they unlock again!!!, The interior light stays on permanently and will not go off now even with doors closed, yes it is in the right place!
Also before, when the little switch for the interior light on the doors was pressed/depressed you would here a little noise and click from inside, this has now gone!, The cars don't lock if the doors are open so could it be thinking that the door is open??? due to the fact that the light stays on??
Any ideas? any help would be much appreciated as I do not fancy leaving it unlocked

Sounds like one of the door switches or the button in the central knob could be pushed/stuck in?

Checked them and they are fine, the doors will close fine with me sitting in but the interior light will not go out, I am thinking that perhaps something to do with the circuit that controls interior light/door switches, Normally Doors will lock when open if the car thinks they are shut, i.e. the little switches are in. I think that a little water can get in where the door buttons are, maybe this has done something???

Does anyone know where the relay is that controls this??

There should be a diagram showing the relays in you handbook - alternatively the 'bible' has one as well.

In my Griff the relays are above the battery in the passenger footwell - I think the layout is similar on the Chimaera.

Have you checked that the door light switches are both being depressed fully? Tape them over with some masking tape to test this. The central locking won't allow the car to stay locked if the switches aren't both depressed (each door should have a round piece of metal/plastic/rubber that pushes these in)

Has it got the push switches in the car sill (nearly under the car) these are pushed in by little bits of rubber stuck to the car door. No rubber, no switch and the car thinks the door isn't shut properly so unlocks

Yes it has, Have not checked to see about the little bits, just about to as the sun has re-emerged!!!, but on another note before when the door was open and I pushed the switch in and out it made a little noise inside as if something was turning on and off, it is not doing that anymore!!

Just been out with a friend and tested the door switches, it was the little rubber bits!!!!! they have come off!!

No problem - another result for PistonHeads - 1 1/4 hours from problem logged, to problem resolved!! If only I could do that in my job, life would be rosy
