Difficult job? My mate is in trouble with his. Can it be done on the drive without special tools? Or does it need a puller?

Straightforward job this. Undo the bottom suspension arm bolts at the hub. This gives enough clearance to just get the shaft off the car. The joints are held by a circlip, so circlip pliers would be handy. The driveshaft bolts are hexagonal so Allen keys or suitable Torx bits will do fine. You may need to knock the joints off the shafts depending on how tight they are - close tolerance fit.
I did all mine on my driveway with no problems.

Do NOT mix up the inner bolts (6 of them) with the outer ones. They are different threads - one lot imperial, one lot metric. Ask me how I found out.....rolleyes

Some slide off easy, hopefully they will in your case.

I couldnt budge mine not even clattering them, with shaft held in the vice.
Had to press them off and they still took some moving. I ended up with new shafts and joints.

Good luck.

From first ever post of, "what did you do in the garage yesterday"?

Renewed all 4 CV joints,
Renewed all PS hoses,
Remade PS bottle bracket,
Tried to bend rear ARB to get better action, failed smile,
Raised and twisted engine on its mounts cause the y piece tail was touching the chassis,
Cut off 2 locking wheel nuts, (don't ask!),
Found cause of rattles under car, (all damper ally rose joint sleeves had wear),
Various checking and fiddling about.

Cheers Simon, another long but good day! thumbup

I'm bored waiting for daughter to return home, damm these youngsters, (20 but a girl wink ) out having fun!
