Hi, have a 98 Chimaera, can someone tell me where to expect to find the solenoid for the boot release so I dont have to remove all the carpets.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

It is in the boot, not far from the catch itself, well, mine is anyway.

To the OP, yes you will have to pull back quite a bit of carpet, but only the large piece on the back panel below the boot catch.

It is still awkward to access held by screws inside a glassfibre void of sorts below and to the left of the catch as you look into the boot.

On my last 2000 reg Chimaera it was on the left. The OP said his car is a '98 so at the point of the changeover of the boot latch from being proud to being flush with the boot lip. Being TVR, it could be either side I suppose!

Thanks for the replies, the catch is proud, and the number plate is flush, I think this means its to the right. If the catch is flush and the number plate recessed then its to the left. Is that correct?

Have a non-functioning / no noise boot release button (Chimaera 2002) discovered on a petrol forecourt with an almost empty tank curse - so investigation will start at the weekend. For the record, presumably "left" for the solenoid position on a later model refers to driver's side (in a right hand drive car nerd).

What other 'usual suspects' should i check?

TIA / Nick

On my 2000 year car it’s on the left hand side looking into the boot from the THE REAR OF THE CAR so passenger side. You might be able to feel it under the carpet just left or right of the lock. You will have to pull the carpet up to access it, some carpet glue will be needed to re fit carpet after.
Once you access the solenoid firstly see if you have power to it by getting someone to press the button and using a multi meter at the solenoid end. Mine showed a healthy supply, with a bit of hand movement I got the original working again but decided to replace it anyway. It’s been fine for over two years now.

Doesn't this all depend on which way round you are standing?

Well yes, if you are standing at the back of the car with your back to it...or standing at the front of the car facing it...or

Steve

For clarity rather than jest. On the right when at the back facing the car. I can add a plan view and either first or third angle projections if required.

Did you manage to get into the boot, or are you still running on fumes?

Just that when I worked on my boot solenoid I was kneeling inside the boot so my left & right were opposite to when I was standing at the back of the car
