Changed my handbrake warning switch. Thanks to a heads up, a mini brake switch is £2.75 and does the job. 3/4 inch nut fits the new switch.

Others may be interested in why my handle didn't go all the way down, it may have happened to you. At some point in the past, the right angle bracket that pushes on the switch had been badly bent:

It was actually catching on the chassis rail and would not meet the switch plunger. Butchered on a body refit after the respray probably. Here it is in profile after the handle has been unshipped:

I had to mount and remove the handle a couple of times to get it right. The nut and bolt holding the ratchet segment were removed as well by mistake at first. If you do them up again too tight, the ratchet doesn't work right so it was a bit trial and error. Sorted anyway now. along with cleaning the contacts inside the reservoir lid, I now have working brake warning lamps. smile

Thanks! Working through the little things at first. Non - working lamps is a bugbear of mine. I just want all things to work right.

Discovered half the boot carpets weren't glued down too! But some Wickes spray adhesive has put that right.

Just shows you, a fancy paint colour and new headlights are only two of the things to do laugh

Funnily enough I've spent the last 6 months softening my car down with some nice but old Koni shocks off a Griff that I find very agreeable and Rainsport tyre's which are a god send in more ways than one.
Then I've removed de cat Y for the much quieter and cleaner smelling standard catted Y and also removed my sleeved exhaust for the original. It's all very quiet all of a sudden.
This has prompted me to also fix my lower dash panel properly and install radio and speakers that i'd removed ( save weight) hehe
I've owned the car some 6 years and never had a stereo that works as I loved the engine note so much.
Fitting the stereo reminded me of being seventeen and fitting an equaliser for better sound and found myself hugely excited when it all worked, driving the car for the first time with a nice neat looking dash and flashy radio lighting and good music felt like I'd cracked it biggrin

I'm starting to care about the detail now and enjoying sorting these little bits out.
Great fun thumbup
