What turbo bits come with it? Just the turbo, or intercooler, pipework etc as well?

Fully installed turbo kit, including all pipework, intercooler, oil cooler and bleed valve, will set you back £3700. You can have a 4.6 Range Rover engine built for around £3-4K ( well, I did), and you will know the compression ratio, the condition of all parts, etc etc.

I don't see Glen's offering , with a load of unknown quantities, as being a wise choice, but I haven't seen his advert.

I'd agree with that not many bargains thats for sure. I see the "rolling chassis' " still up!!

Not much detail on the engine is there. At that money with little previous knowledge Its a bit of a leap but if it really has been rebuilt properly and someone can shed some light then maybe. Eann supplied the kit by the sounds of it...probably fitted it as well.

6.5k still sounds a bit steep to me though....bearing in mind you can get a standard V8D 4.6 long engine and new turbo kit for similar money.

One thing going for it, if you can get some more detail on the rebuild etc, is that you will at least end up with your present engine to sell, unless you have already broken it. V8D normally require your old engine as a PX. And if Glen is selling the whole engine, including all the ancillaries, plenum, pipes etc, you will have all your original bits to sell as well.
And it saves the time it takes to have an engine built and the turbo installed.

Yes, you can run a turbo on the 14 CUX, (as Mac pointed out), but would you? Factor in another £2-3k for ECU, loom, and mapping.

This looks like Eann Whalley's old 4.6 engine, it made 273bhp and 300ft lbs the flywheel when it was naturally aspirated and was the engine he used as the platform to develop his turbo kit on.

I have an old email from Eann where he explains following the turbo installation he ran 9psi for 335 bhp and 456ft lbs at the hubs, so roughly 400hp and well over 500ft/lbs at the flywheel.

Development Chim 1 was involved in an accident back in 2013 which is how the car and it's engine has ended up at TVR Glen, Eann Whalley went on to buy another 4.5 in a lighter blue colour, you can see development cars 1 & 2 on his website:

http://hstrial-ewhalley.homestead.com/index.html

I'm sure Eann Whalley will be happy to confirm the engine's history in terms of the quoted rebuild ect.

Same sort of power/torque as I have made from a stock 4.6 with Eann's turbo kit on it - so with that provenance, and the complete turbo kit, provided by Glenn, that might be worth a look, as it will save a lot of time and trouble sourcing. Still got to get it fitted and probably re-mapped, and i stick to my comments about aftermarket ECU vs 14 CUX. So budget another £3000 to end up with it running properly in a car.

That was a picture of Eann's engine, well before the crash which wrote the car off.
Not sure where Glen got it from, but the car was converted to Megasquirt well after that photo was taken, and before the crash.
The crash resulted in a fire, and this is what the engine/turbo kit looked like after the fire:

How is that still on Lucas? Clearly has coilpacks...

£3k maybe. £6.5k? - build your own with a known good block, decent heads and a new ball bearing turbo

The tyre's are not upto the job. So hard there still intact!!!! Bet that caused the crash! They look similar to Avon ZZ3 I had a few years ago, not the best on a light car I'd say!
A Turbo without updating the brakes is also irresponsible so factor that in too!
A fine reason to stay at 300 hp if you ask me. smile

He went from 14CUX after the photo that Glen used (that a Eann himself took and must have posted somewhere), and before the crash/fire.

Err, Glenn's pic has coilpacks. Doesn't mean the 14CUX injection has been dispensed with but would be an unusual move.

Anyhoo, pays your money etc

Isn't the advantage to Eanns conversion with plug and play ms2 and coil packs that it can be swapped back fairly easily?

When I had my turbo fitted he actually swapped back to original set-up on his so I could experience it in that guise before mine was fitted....didn't quite work out due to weather and other factors but still.

Sorry, but Glen has changed the pictures on the advert. When I first looked, the picture was one picture, and the engine had a coil.....not coil packs.

Yes, photos changed, the engine Glen is actually selling is not the one he first showed...

The revised photo set shows a car that's been in a front front collision and suffered no fire damage, it's clearly not Eann Whalley's old 4.6 engine even though the first photo was.
