Quick cooling help

Left the bible at home and I'm doing Snetterton tomorrow. I want to check the coolant levels before I get out on track. Normally the car is in at David Batty or Austec (service or fettling) often enough that I don't have to check it.

So, shame on me but can someone give me a quick pointer? I'm sure its check the expansion tank (blue capped one at the front, 4.5 serpentine) but how full should it be?

this seems to vary a little from car to car,but a good guide is half-full.if this turns out to be a little too much for yours,then itll just waste the excess and find its own lower level.mine sits just below halfway.

Bible says to check the expansion tank (blue cap), level should be no more than two inches below the top.

Obviously only do this when cooling system (and engine) is cold !!!

Great. Thanks guys. I'll check when I get back to the car and top up with water/coolant as requried.

There is a weld about half way up the expansion tank. You can see the weld inside the exapansion tank as well in good light. I was advised by the dealer to fill it up to this mark.
