One of my rears has some play and got a mention on the MOT, I guess it’s reasonably easy but just thought I would ask if there’s anything special I should consider before starting in it?
Does anyone happen to have the bearing number?, I will probably do all 4 while I’m at it

Got a 41mm socket and torque wrench that'll do 290Nm?

if you don't want to get bearings through TVR channels I'd guess any Sierra with rear disc brakes, XR 4x4?

They say you'll need a scaffold bar to undo them.

Be aware that the nearside has a left hand thread.

Hi
41mm socket and scaffold bar are no problem, I hadn’t considered the left hand thread, so thank you for that, for new bearings I figured a trip to Bearing man or similar after finding the number, if no one has it I can just wait until I remove one, does anyone know if front and backs are the same?

They are different part numbers. You might want a couple of these if you have to wreck the old ones:

Better off going to a Motor Factor (imho) and getting a bearing kit which will have new seals and lock nuts.

Yes the kit looks ideal, that’s the bonus of using this forum, I was just expecting a bearing replacement, now I understand more, thanks for all your help,

This^^^^ ...lots of counterfeit SKF bearings on 'auction sites' apparently, the packaging is totally convincing... so always buy parts like this from a trusted supplier.

Just had a look at Burton Power for the bearing kit. A little bit cheaper than TVR dealers (supply your own grease) but even magnifying the picture, can't make out a manufacturer's name. To be trusted or not confused

I'd like to think that a company that have been around as long as Burton's would sell decent stuff?

Whether or not you can make out a name in the photo is probably irrelevant, could have changed supplier since web page was created?

Sometimes there's no substitute for a phone call, apart from going to your local Motor Factor and seeing the goods before you buy!

The part number on the bearing in the burton picture reads JL68145 (although the 8 isn't desperately clear). This is a Timken part number according to what I found on the internet, but there is no guarantee it is a Timken bearing. Personally for the sake of a few quid I'd go with the known source others are suggesting.

I wouldn't. But then I wouldn't fit any Firstline parts (due to past experiences).
Consider, Firstline don't make bearings, they just box whatever brand they are buying at that time. And as they are at the lower end of the price scale of replacement parts, they won't be buying top brands like SKF Timken etc.

This ^ although Quinton Hazell and First-line are considered budget brands in the motor trade the boxes usually contain the likes of Timkin, NSK, INA etc

I get all my bearings from BRT (Bearing and Roller Transmissions) Group, an old-school specialist bearing supplier. You can rely on them to supply only good quality bearings and yes they do wheel bearing kits with seals and nuts included.
If you don't want to buy from TVR Parts, I would recommend you check to see if BRT have a branch near you.
