Ignition barrel
Discussion
Hello all, the ignition barrel has just failed on the chin, anyone know if this is the correct PART?

The barrel is from a 1980's Vauxhall. The part number according to the site below is Vauxhall 90140760. Yours does look to be correct. The part number brings up your link on a search. £11.95 posted.

I changed both the barrel and switch at the same time. Both pretty easy to do and perhaps worth the extra effort while you are there. Both parts can be purchased for less than £20 if you shop around.
switch - Vauxhall Cavalier 90052497
barrel and keys - Vauxhall OE PART NUMBER 0913614 / 90140760 / 201793
Ensure the steering lock is off when you start this job.
Remove the two part plastic cowl and rubber washer around the outside of the ignition barrel. Take care if you have any switches or LED mounted in the cowl.
From memory to release the barrel, turn the key to position 2. There is small hole on the barrel housing that needs an allen key pushing down to release the barrel.
With the barrel out the switch comes off, but you need two screw drivers. One to release the catch, and the other to leaver the switch off the contacts. The catch is at the back of the switch from memory. No soldering to do, just a push fit part.
There is also a small lever that operates the steering lock inside the barrel housing that might need attention, but for the life of me cannot remember if it needs moving up or down to be correct.

Hmmmm am wondering about replacing the ignition barrel and keys on my 430 as it seems someone has lost the second key and fob even though it has a fairly new alarm fitted,
Not sure how tricky changing the barrel is and am trying to find out if the alarm card is still with the paper work to a new fob can be bought. Am guessing being a 93 car that the keys won't have chips in as the fob had those?

It's quite handy to do. Mine came out a doodle, I'm waiting on the part to put back in so haven't got that far but it's only a reversal of taking it out. But don't forget to either keep one of the original keys or change the "other" barrel. I'm having to do this swap as my "other" barrel doesn't work in my recently acquired Chimaera! I guess someone changed one at some point and didn't keep the old key. Anyone know if you can buy two barrels with matching keys? Also, it seems that to change the "other" one I need to drill out four pop rivets - is that right or is there another way of doing it?
