Hi All,

I've got a question about the coolant temperature sensor on my 96 Chim 400 (serpentine).

She's always had intermittent problems with rough/uneven idling and cutting out. I've changed all the leads, plugs and dizzy cap and serviced the Stepper Motor which seems to have reduced the issue however it does still happen on occasion when the car has been running at temperature for a while eg. after a long stretch on the motorway when I get back into the city she won't idle properly and sometimes cut out altogether.

I plan to replace the coolant temperature sensor as that apparently can solve a lot of these issues.

The issue I'm having is working out which one to replace. In the bible there is one "located at the front of the engine" but in some of the threads I've read there are two and I've noticed a sensor at the base of the swirl pot, so which one do I need to replace?!?

I don't want to buy the wrong part, so I'd be really grateful if someone could straighten out this bag of snakes for me.

Hope everyone had a good xmas.

Cheers

Hi.The one at the front, top of engine is the coolant temp sensor[2 pin timer connector].The one at the bottom of the swirl tank is the otter switch which turns the front fans on and there is another buried down by the base of the distributor that has a single pin lucar type connector. That is used for the temperature gauge in the dash.Hope this helps.

It’s at the front passenger side of the inlet manifold at the side of the bit of pipe with the bolt in it

Buy the brass nut one

Thanks chaps that's really helpful.

I'm planning on getting this one from TVR Parts unless there is a better and/or cheaper option out there you know of?

Thanks again
