Jump leads

Going to buy some jump leads to keep in the boot. What would the optimum amperage rating be for a Chim? I'm trying to find the longest ones I can, the battery isn't exactly easy to connect with short cables!

Thanks, I managed to find some massive fat ones (and quite long too) on Ebay for quite cheap money

...so when you have a flat battery you'll be getting them out of the boot then..?

Yes, because they'll be kept on the petrol tank, right by the vent holes.

Definitely get the Leven jump lead kit. Make sure you get the one that comes with the plug that is fitted into the engine bay. That way (assuming you can get the bonnet open) it takes about 5 seconds to get them connected and no messing around in the footwell trying to access the battery.

My car came with it already fitted but if/when I buy another TVR I would definitely have a set another set fitted.

Just a thought the Leven kit has a conversion item (I think its some fork lift truck or similar) which when fitted provides a plug (have had them on both my Chimaera's one in the passenger footwell and one under the bonnet)which connecting much easier.

The Leven kit has a plug, which is generally fitted under the bonnet… and has a protective cap to stop dirt getting into the contacts. If you have the plug located so that it is facing down, then you can get to it without the need to open the bonnet.

You can get the jump leads to attach to a normal car… and the vast majority of breakdown services I have seen have a plug that fits the Leven one, so getting going again if you have a flat battery is nice and easy.

All those bits are available at VWP in component form. If you investigate it looks like the connectors commonly supplied are only rated 50amps! Joolz has a Tuscan racer with the 175A connectors, I would certainly use these rather than the smaller ones, if they will start that beast they should be OK.

Considering the holes are larger than standard as they had speakers in, that won't be an issue!

Yip you can get them made for F,All at any auto sparky that has a clue,poles to the off side on the underside of the fibreglass rail.(the same rail as the the bonnet is hinged to)
