Speedo?

Hi everybody, my dad jsut bought a TVR Chimaera and during the first run we realised that the speedo doesnt go above 90mph this isnt too much of a problem as we have a snooper but it would be nice to get it fixed, I was wondering if this is a common problem and if it can be easily fixed or is a new instrument needed.

You'll struggle to get a new one I think. Also there's only one place that I've heard of (in Wales) that reconditions them.

Generally very early are ETB - they do repairs, later are CAI (aka greenguages / speedy .....) who also do repairs. Its a little dumb to send ETB gauges to CAI, you would'nt ask Ford to fix your Vauxhall would you? The labels on the back of the instruments will tell you the make, when you take them out.

It might be an idea to take the speedo out and get it tested somewhere before you start buying things. The system works with a pulse system so the problem could easily be elsewhere unlike a cable system.

Not sure if mine reads at anything over 70mph, that would be illegal

You say that yours doesnt read anything over 70 do you mean that the speedo just stays at 70 when you are above that speed or does it go to zero? If it sticks at 70 is there a possibility that it just needs some lubrication or do you think there is something else wrong?
