Hi all,

With thanks to many here I solved my running issues, hurray! to find that the clutch was slipping, boo!

Anyway, rear ARB removed, exhaust off, G/B out, clutch removed to find a nice thick clutch plate, I expected to be down to the rivits so something is wrong, the friction plate was very dirty so possibly contaminated with oil from crank oil seal, gear box seal, sump gasket, rocker cover gasket? going to replace it all as well as clutch arm so should solve the problem, I hope!

While up on stands I have removed the front suspension and had it blasted/powder coated, looks great, so decided to sort the chassis as best as I can, but so difficult to get everywhere to remove flaky powdercoat etc.

So. I'm going body lift. I figure I'm half way there already.

I haven't got a lift so will be doing it old school, engine lift, jacks, axle stands, huge head aches etc.

To reduce the height I have to lift the body I'm thinking about taking the engine out first, can you lift the engine with strops around the manifolds? the lifting eye kit I have seen bolts to the rear of the block which is pretty much inaccessible, how do others do it?

Wish me luck.

Advice gratefully received.

Frank

I think some people lift using the manifolds but I prefer not to stress the manifolds or the bolts so I just put flat slings under the engine.

I stripped the top end down and bolted some simple brackets to the cylinder head bolt holes using the old head bolts.
Not a conventional approach but I had no lifting eyes.
