4.3?

Hi everyone, Just got our Chimaera 94 which we bought as a 4.0 however as I looked thought the TVR user manual it mentions "your 4.3 Chimaera..." Can anyone tell me how I can tell what size the engine really is?

It could be a 4.3.

In fact there's something like 4.0, 4.0HC, 4.3, 4.3HC, 4.5 and 5.0 out there apparently.

On the other hand, you've probably got a 4.3 manual because that's what was closest to hand when your car left the factory.

Log book (registration document in modern parlance), badge on plenum. Handbook may have been replaced / incorrect in the first place?

You could try deducing it from the Vin Number, see

I found a good method was to drive through a puddle, this killed my Griff but on removing the plugs and cranking it over the men in overalls said it was indeed a 5 litre

Easiest is to read the engine serial number, this is on the vin plate and should be stamped on the block on a lug under No3 cylinder, adjacent to the dip stick.
37A40Pxxxx (xxxx = unique engine number) the 37 could be 47; the 40 could be 43 for a 4.3ltr or 50 for a 5ltr. I assume 45 for a 4.5ltr but not sure. The TVR number is hand stamped over the top of the etched Land Rover block number.
Note the number and speak nicely to Dom at TVR Power he will be able to give you the low down on the orignal build spec. Assuming the records are complete, there was a period when they were a bit sketchy .

:stop: Stay where you are; get the misses out of bed and get her to drive it out of the garage (opening the doors first); turn it around in the street on full throttle and put it back in the garage, sorted serial number in full view.
Don't forget to tell her to close the garage door on the way out or it might not be there in the morning .

I've never known any woman that I could get out of bed by yelling from the garage. Far less one that would do my bidding on arrival. And if I did, it's unlikely that I'd be thinking too hard about where I wanted my car, although I might be debating which way round I preferred.
