Anybody know the best place to buy an replacement air flow meter from. On my 5.0l it is the 5AM version, landrover part ERR5198, Lucas part 70410A.
Car will be on Rolling Road at the weekend to check out a fuel consumption problem, but its expected to show the air flow meter has a problem.

I've looked about and can find new parts for £400+ or an exchange part for £150 + VAT.
Anyone know where I can get any better prices for this part or have I already got there.

Not sure if it needs scaling to suit the ECU but I think Mark Adams uses a Hitatche(sp?) one as a direct replacement, cheaper and more reliable than the Lucas apparently too.
Give him a ring to discuss.

Phil, sorry I can't help regarding the AFM, but I too have an over fueling problem. I've checked out all the sensors with the multimeter and everything is well within limits so I'm scratching my head a bit.

Could you please post the results of the rolling road tests so it may point me in the right direction

Dave

My Griff has a possible AFM problem. Not my diagnosis but Mark Adams comments on here. One of the things it's currently doing is being terrible on mpg. I.e. 10-11 on average driving? It's also occasionally misfiring and generally running a bit ragged on light throttle. Booked in at Austec on Friday and hope they can sort it out, preferably without destroying my recently received annual bonus!!!

Cheers - Chris.

That all depends on how big your bonus was , if it was like mine then a service alone would blow it

As ever with the Griff I fear the worst from a financial point of view...

If it is the AFM then it might not be so painful though. Mine displayed similar petrol swallowing symptoms the year before last and Mark keeps a stock of known good secondhand meters from cars that have upgraded to the bigger one. That or fit the hitache(sp?) one which again is a lot cheaper than the Lucas original.
DAft question but do you have any Tivs local to you , as to fit a known good one in your car will take all of 5 minutes and prove or disprove the theory.

Car's booked in at Austec on Friday so hopefully they'll be able to diagnose the problem and sort it out. Fingers crossed!!

Yes I know you can Tim. I was looking at all the loverly things that you have to offer....but then I looked at my bank balance....

I noticed the Bosch AM unit you offer, which sounds like it is designed to go with your multi-throtle induction kits. Is that true, or could they be fitted to the standard setup. If one was fitted then does the ECU need to be modified in some way or remapped....cos that leads down a more interesting...but more expensive road.

Thanks Matt.

i did look at Ebay, but not sure whether to trust the parts enough. I previously bought a 2nd hand 6-CD stacker unit to replace my failing one. it was a complete con and didn't work. However, I was able to make one working unit by swapping parts here and there, so it wasn't a total loss.

What i meant was i can supply guaranteed second hand air mass meters, but i don't have them listed on the website.

Arrhh !

I see.

Thanks for that. I'll see what the score is with the Air Flow Meter at this weekend's Rolling Road session, and get back to after that.

Well it looks like it was the Air Flow Meter that was causing my poor MPG after all .

Tim at ACT provided me with a 2nd hand unit (Thanks Tim) and I've managed to do a couple of fill ups now.
15 MPG and then 17 MPG for my normal run to work where I used to get 17 to 18. It now had its service, so new plugs on top and the latest signs are still looking good.

Initially Tim gave me a 3AM unit rather than the 5AM unit that had been fitted to the car. This didn't improve the MPG at all. However, I saw an injection specialist who pointed out that the 3AM unit is for cars without the CAT, so would be running rich for my car.
Sure enough, swapping to the 5AM unit has fixed my problem.

Cheers

Phil
