Agree with the wheels but engine, "should" be OK given it's a Powers rebuild.

It depends on what you want.

A lot of the charm of the chim is that it has a lazy, good mannered engine which is ideal for pootling about on our overcrowded roads.

That looks like the one that was at Ferrnhurst for ages. IIRC it's actually a Tamora chassis underneath and was stickered at mid-£30's.

5 stud wheels but brake discs look tiny, like Chimaera?

It’s seems a bit much for a non original car but I don’t hate the idea of it, I agree some of the charm goes with removing the V8 though. It has got me thinking however. Would a Cerb V8 go in one?

I wonder why they would have taken out the V8 in the first place?

If going to the trouble of swapping it out, I'd be putting in a proven LS or Ford unit.

Because they can? Loses none of the TVR heritage with an engine replacement from another model. I like the idea personally. Again, not a lover of the wheels and yellow cars are a marmite choice. But the engine, yum! cloud9

I was thinking more about what the advantages were. Is a 4.3 Speed Six more powerful than a 4.5 V8? Is it a lighter engine? I wouldn't have thought it was more reliable.

The way that I read the advert when it was for sale previously at Fernhurst, was that it was one of the very last 'Chims' the factory produced, that it had the Tam chassis and engine from new, a prototype to see if they could continue using the Chim body but on the later running gear.
If that is indeed true, it's worth that price and more for its uniqueness and place in TVR history alone, despite the overuse of the colour yellow.
Perhaps someone from the factory can confirm or laugh loudly as appropriate.

I think it’s the one I saw at Powers about 5 years ago when engine was installed.
I think it is one of the last made but thought the engine mod was recent.
I thought the story goes
Tvr tried to discontinue the Chim in 2000 but people kept ordering them until 2003 so this is one of those cars and indeed one of the very last.

Interesting, I had the same memory of the Fernhurst ad that TwinKam did, sure that suggested it was a TVR build on a Tam chassis. Powers' story suggests such a car once did exist as a prototype but that isn't this car.

So what about the difference in wheelbase between Chim/Griff and T-cars (229/236 cm)? I've sort of looked into this for a (very) future project as it would be a best of both worlds sort of thing but I can't see it being doen without cutting the chassis in two or lengthening the body behind the doors (which might not look quite as good as the original).

My understanding of this car was that it's just what it looks like: a late Chimaera with a Speed6 installed (ACT actually has an air box to fit this specific application in its catalogue).
