Hi everyone, I just thought i'd introduce myself.
I'm currently looking out for a 4.0 Chimaera, having (like a lot of people here it seems) wanted one ever since they first came out

Well I currently drive a (don't laugh) VW Passat V6 Syncro/tiptronic and it's been the best, most reliable car I've ever owned. But it's really all just a bit too, well, .... sensible to be honest

Thing is, I keep listening to other (non enthusiast) people who tell me to get a BMW 328ci or Audi S4 etc, and I must admit i have looked a little at these. But every time a Chimaera goes past I fall in love again with the outrageous V8 rumble. So I've finally decided now that I am going to realise my dreams and get one.. All I have to do is sell the Passat.. Things shouldn't be too tough for me because I won't be in a position of HAVING to rely on a TVR because I have a van to run around in.

Just one question.. I am currently in the position of not having off road parking, am I being unreasonable to expect a TVR to be happy parked on the street outside my house? What are your opinions... I know about bumpers not being too special etc, but is there anything else I should bear in mind?

Get one they are great, we've had ours for 3 days only one thing broken so far. Also when you go in another car you realise how good that v8 sounds, when I was in my friends corsa I could barely hear it!!

Hello Welcome to the mad house!

Many people on here have chims and dont have off street parking! Get yourself a Leven hood cover (about £130) and youll be fine. Enjoy!

Don't believe everything that you're told about Chims being unreliable. The RV8's a pretty dependable lump and provided (i) you buy a good 'un and (ii) you look after it, you should be able to look forward to many miles of happy, reliable motoring.

As for parking on the street, a decent car cover is a good idea (I'd even go so far to suggest that you go for a Classic Additions full car heavy duty cover with the security strap (people tend not to steal/damage what they can't see)). Oh, it all depends on where you live too. If you like in a street that frequently resembles a bad day in Baghdad, I probably wouldn't recommend it

The bottom line is that they're fanbloodytastic cars. You won't regret your decision!

I went through the same dilema as you at the start of this year, looking at a jag XJR, S2000 and a BMW 540. In the end no matter how much my sensible head argued I kept coming back to the Chim, and its a decision I don't regret in the slightest. Think about how many Audis etc you see go past on the road and then how many Chims you see. I can easily go for a 4 hour run and not see a single Tiv of any model.
As for leacing it outside, just invest in a Leven hood cover and you'll be fine. There are plenty of people on here who use one as a daily driver and leave it on the street and have no problems.

I am in the same predicament, except I live in Manchester and Miss Daisy is parked on the street, I will admit my nerves are taking a battering and I still have to get through this weekend (Bank Holiday) so I may bugger off for it just to be on the safe side.

TBH I am actually now looking for a place with a drive even if it means paying more in rent.

Dont let the parking put you off...just go for it...I did and havent regretted a minute of the 4 days so far

Get one! It was my dream car - and having got one it still is. It is my only car and gets used two or three times a week. And face it, if you don't get one, you'll always wish you had!

I park mine on the street and it's absolutely fine outside. Obviously buy on condition, check for leaks / damp patches etc, but there's no reason that this won't be the best purchase you've ever made!

Edited: PS I don't have a hood cover, but I haven't yet noticed any damp bits, even through all the snow and showers earlier this year.

Mine's parked outside, and absolutely no leaks whatsoever. Leaks from the hood should be pretty simple to sort out if they happen.

The only problem I can see is the hood fading in sunlight, but you can recolour it easily enough.

Audi S4 Avant is cracking car especially the 2.7 twin turbo.

But the TVR is better, unless your my dog
