New Owner

Have just bought myself an old Chimaera in need of some tlc:



Sadly failed it's MOT on rusty outriggers, so I've order a set from RT Racing and will get those fitted and then hopefully back on the road. Longer term plan is to refresh or replace the engine as it's done an impressive 146k miles. Still sounds fabulous and goes well, but probably past its prime. Have also ordered a complete second hand interior as the current one is showing its age.

I've owned a Chimaera and Cerbera in the past, so not a newcomer to TVRs, but really looking forward to getting this one on the road.

I may be asking lots of questions along the way.....

Congrats! I sold two very nice examples and got a project; it's fun, hard work, satisfying and expensive in equal measure! At least yours was capable of getting itself to an MOT station in the first place - mine turned up on a low-loader!

I'd been following that on the bay of E. Glad it went to someone enthusiastic, although the colour wrap may not be to everybody's taste!

With all the cats removed, you may need a 'friendly' MoT tester.

Quick update - Outriggers have been received and I've also got the recently re-trimmed black interior from a crash-damaged Chimaera to go in.

As I think it'll be a while before this car is on the road again, I bought another Chimaera to enjoy in the interim as it was offered at a price I couldn't refuse. It's an early 4.3 car and has lost it's front grille. I've seen that you can still get new ones from TVRParts for a not extortionate amount of money, but was wondering if anyone had a used one they wanted to sell?

Sadly sold my old one last year but I changed from the old type and made this instead. A piece of stainless mesh from the Mesh Company, rubbed down, primed then satin black. Probably lets more cooling air get to the radiator as well.

No, just re-used the old rubber from the original. It looks a bit wonky in the pic as I hadn't bothered to check it

That looks great. Alas, TVRParts no-longer sell the grilles, so I'll have to make one, too. Don't have a template to work from, so I'm not holding-out too much hope for it looking as good as that!

I can trace mine out if you like, need a day or two to find some suitable material to make the template though.
