Was trying to bleed the cooling system today, and I managed to drop and lose the bleed plug from the radiator. Its now in the tray under the rad, and I can't reach it!! Can anyone help me source a replacement please?

See pic and arrow for the part I require.

Thanks for your help!

Can you see the plug?, if so try a magnet on a string or stick etc to fish it out

I can’t see it. I’ve tried fishing it out using a stick but no luck. I really need to try and find a replacement.

Just checked with them and thats the plug on top of the swirl pot, not the radiator so unfortunately the wrong one for me. They don't have the part that I'm looking for.

Thanks anyway.

Can't you get into that area through the front. I've dropped many things into that tray, I usually resort to a snake-cam and bits of stiff wire

If you can't retrieve it try a call to Powers. They must have one lying around as they fit many alloy radiators as upgrades.

024 7636 6177 and speak to Andy.

Its presumably just a bung, 1/8 or 1/4 BSP at a guess? Any plumbers merchant should be able to sort you out.

1/8 is approx 10mm diameter across the threads, 1/4 about 13mm

Or Ebay............ example

I think by the time you have phoned around and got one sent to you, you could undo the two bolts each side of the rad and lift it up by a few inches, that will give you enough space to fish it out.

Happened to me, you are carefully unscrewing it to bleed the system and it just flies out doesn't it?

No amount of fishing around would find it unless you are really lucky, so undoing the bolts, 20 minutes I had the bolt back out again.

Yep just slipped out, and I had the sinking feeling knowing it would be a pain to retrieve!

A couple of other people have suggested that I lift the Rad up, I haven't had a chance to look at how easy that is but will try that later this week.

Will try call Powers also too see if they can help.

Thanks all for your help.

I'd be inclined to agree with the above, and 1/8 BSP (parallel) seems likely to me.

A good plumbers merchant will be your friend, go for a proper 1/8 BSP bleed plug and you'll never lose it again......

Buy a spare, coz you will loose the little screw when you undo it too far biggrin
