Help! 4.3 Gear lever broke

1994 4.3l Chim SD1 box

Yesterday, changing from 1 to 2 and the lever went all floppy. About 4" movement around the neutral position with no resistance or feeling to the lever. I can just get all gears right at the extremes of the lever movement but it takes some fiddling.

What's up???

I'm hoping it's not a box out job. Any ideas please?

I had this with my old chimaera (rover box) there is a large plastic bush at the base of the gear stick which had broken. You need to take the centre trim off and look inside, its pretty easy to change.

Cheers I'll get the book out to work out how to take the trim off, and have a look this weekend.
