Should pick up my Chimaera 500 next week and already looking at aftermarket alloys and tyres. From countless posts on here I believe I am looking for;
2 front wheels of 7.5x17 et25
2 rear wheels of 8.5 x17 et35

215/40 tyres for the fronts and either
235/40 or 245/40 for the rears.
All PCS 4x108 on a centre bore of 63.2mm.

Does anyone have clear experience or advice on either 235 or 245 tears?

PAS car on a 96 pre face lift but SERP/T5 if that matters at all.

Cheers

Mark

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... - is my thread on needing replacements for my 17" wheels.

215/40 is really pushing it for me on the front, and I did have a 5mm spacer fitted at one point, before RT Racing did my chassis refurb and fettled the suspension so that I didn't need them, but it's damn close.

It is also a very harsh ride - it feels every lump and bump.

For track days though, I'm told it makes a massive difference. I've done regular events at Bruntingthorpe and one of the resident racing instructors took me for a lap in my own car - it is capable of so much more than I can get out of it, and he said it felt a lot more confident and predictable in fast corners than other Chims he has driven. I'll bow to his knowledge on that one though.

When I swapped from the standard to Imola 15/16s I certainly noticed that the rear was a bit more lively on 17s, and I'm reluctant to drive it in the wet as it feels quite twitchy to me, that may be more the tyres themselves than the size though. Spacing though is not a problem

Upper corners of the inner arches.
