Ever since I sold my last Chimaera I’ve missed it, so I’ve finally added another to my collection. I already love it, it’s not my fastest car, the most comfortable, practical (or reliable!) but it sounds great, looks great and makes me and others smile. It does however have a couple of gremlins, the stereo stopped working today during a drive and bizarrely started again when I switched the ignition off! A bigger concern is that it cut out after one long drive (when I collected it) and although the fuel pump primed, wouldn’t even attempt to turn over. It is also reluctant to restart when hot. Any ideas? Someone guessed at a blocked fuel tank breather?

Thanks in advance...

Grab a cup of tea ( a large one) and search for hot start problem on here.
It will probably point you to the immobiliser, which is something to consider changing if you can afford it, and want to remove one of the biggest headaches and causes of breakdowns.

If it's your 3rd Chimaera, I'm surprised you're not aware of the 'hot start' issue. I use quotation marks because it is often actually an immobiliser issue that becomes obvious when the engine is hot. If it won't even turn over, it could be the immobiliser or the starter itself. Do a search and you'll find several long threads about it.

Cutting out is more serious. I would suspect the 100A fuse (if you have one) if it is at idle. Otherwise, it could be many things.

The stereo coming back on at engine off not only suggests loose power supply wires but could also be that the 12V supplies from battery and via ignition are the wrong way round. Mine was like this such that it would work with no key in but not remember any stations.

Thanks, sorry about the poll - not sure how that happened! I did actually remove the immobiliser and alarm from my previous Chimaera, having previously replaced it, but that caused continual problems, not specifically related to running hot. I’ll have a hunt for previous threads. Interesting about the stereo, will look into it.
