New Radiator Needed :(

Just been informed by the AA man that my radiator is split, need another one. Who's the best value garage to do this?!? In the London / Berkshire area, although they will take the car anywhere and i'm due to go back to cheshire friday night and I heard theres a good guy in the Stockport area?

From my admittedly limited experience, it doesn't look like a huge job. Possible to do it yourself perhaps? Or am I kidding myself?

very possible.when someone as incapable as myself can do one on a griff,then a chim should be a doddle,comparatively speaking.just as a guide price,newport radiators charge £100 to re-core,last time i enquired.theyll also put an otter switch thread in the outlet for you if you like-very worthwhile imho.

Thanks! But have had to bite the bullet and send her away, I need the car back by tomorrow night as need to travel up to Cheshire - managed to get it all done and can collect at 5 tomorrow for £320 all in. A little more than i'd like to pay But when needs must! I mean I can't travel all that way in the girlfriends Clio!

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this better. The 82-68 works a treat! I always have cool water ready & waiting.... and actually use the thermostat...

My car has been suffering from a similar problem, the radiator core is disintegrating (about 15% gone), there is now a trickling leak and the cooling fans were having to stay on longer than I thought they should be. An hour after my brother and I decided to tackle the removal of the radiator, the radiator is on its way for a re-core (£141 inc VAT) in Southampton).

I have heard that one of the reasons raidators tend to go is because they are put under strain because of flex in the body. Anyhow, four 3/4" tap washers (one either side of the radiator on the two top retaining screws) should hold the radiator firm whilst allowing a small degree of movement. According to the 'bible' rubber grommets are often missing. Hopefully this radiator shall last longer than the 6 years that the last one did.

yep, get a recore, any decent radiator place should be able to do you a replacement quickly. a mk 1 range rover if i recaall, consult the bible.
