Speedo / Odometer Problem

My Smiths/CAI speedo odometer says 1025 miles, which is right. If I press the little black button, the trip says 1025.0, which is also right. If I hold the button, the trip resets to 0.0. However, when I turn the ignition off and back on again, the readout defaults to 'total', and if I press the trip button again, it's back to 1025.0.

Running the engine (as opposed to just turning the ignition off and on) makes no difference, but I've not actually moved the car since I discovered this.

What am I doing wrong?

I think you have to hold down the button for about 3 seconds or so to set it. Try that first. It is the later digital type I presume.

Yes, it's digital. I hold the button for a couple of seconds in order to reset it to zero. But it doesn't want to stick.

I've emailed CAI, so we'll see what they say...
